Description
Leidos is seeking a Senior Transmission Line Engineer who will work as part of a dynamic team in a fast‑paced environment, solving challenging electrical transmission problems. The engineer will contribute to high‑voltage overhead and underground system design projects for major utilities, applying NESC, ASCE, ACI and other standards in engineering, design, bidding, procurement, and construction documentation. Independent technical execution using PLS‑CADD, PLS‑POLE and quality control processes will be required, with collaboration across project planning, environmental, permitting and construction management personnel.
Work Locations: Ideal candidates will be located in Michigan, Ohio, West Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey and may work hybrid schedules. Fully remote positions are available for qualified candidates. Relocation assistance is provided for those able to relocate within a commutable distance to Walled Lake, MI or Cranberry Township, PA.
The Challenge:- Execute technical design and engineering tasks related to high‑voltage transmission lines, ensuring compliance with all applicable codes and standards.
- Prepare and review technical drawings, specifications, and calculations under the guidance of Lead Engineers or Project Managers.
- Perform engineering analyses, including PLS‑CADD modeling and structure loading calculations.
- Contribute to the team's continuous improvement goals by learning and applying new technical tools, AI, and automation platforms.
- Actively communicate and coordinate project progress with the Project Manager (PM) to ensure awareness of and adherence to project schedule and budget.
- Maintain strong technical proficiency in industry‑standard software and Leidos design processes.
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s in Civil, Mechanical, or related engineering with at least 4+ years of experience designing electric utility transmission systems.
- Experience using PLS‑CADD and PLS‑POLE.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment and independently.
- Strong interpersonal and written communication skills, focused on collaboration across client and project teams.
- Client office work possibility and/or periodic travel may be required.
Experience:
- Experience with TOWER.
- EIT or PE certification.
- Experience with LPILE or FAD, Mathcad, AutoCAD or Micro Station, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
