Position: Electrical Engineer 2

The Electrical Engineer 2 position with the Department of Corrections is a great chance to make a real impact. This role supports electrical engineering needs across correctional facilities by providing design work, technical guidance, and project oversight. The work helps ensure safe, efficient, and reliable electrical systems. As a Electrical Engineer 2, you will perform the following duties:

  • Design Support: Prepare project designs, specifications, and drawings that follow codes and engineering standards
  • Construction Review: Evaluate construction plans, contractor submittals, and proposed changes to ensure quality and compliance
  • Site Evaluation: Conduct inspections and surveys to identify issues, verify conditions, and provide recommended solutions
  • Technical Guidance: Offer engineering advice to staff and assist with troubleshooting electrical systems and equipment
  • Coordination Work: Work with other disciplines, facility staff, and design professionals to support successful project outcomes
  • Problem Analysis: Investigate electrical failures or unusual conditions and recommend effective corrective actions
Work Schedule and Additional Information
  • Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
  • Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch
  • Telework:
    You may have the opportunity to work from home part-time, up to 3 days per week after the initial 6-month training period. To telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time.
  • Salary:
    In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable
Qualifications

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year as an Electrical Engineer 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration)
  • Two years of professional electrical engineering experience which required work on any structural electrical system; and a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering
  • Two years of professional electrical engineering experience which required work on any structural electrical system, and an Engineer-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists
Special Requirements
  • You must be in possession of a Professional Engineer license issued by the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists
  • You must be in possession of a valid driver’s license
Other Requirements
  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required
  • You must meet the PA residency requirement. For more information on ways to meet PA residency requirements, follow the residency guidelines
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions
Legal Requirement
  • You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements
