This isn't a job post for someone actively searching.
It's for the PM who is already delivering — or nearly delivering — at the level this role requires, but whose current platform isn't keeping pace with their ability.
If you have been waiting for the right seat, this is it.
OpportunityA market-leading, employee-owned engineering firm is looking for two Senior Project Managers to own drinking water and wastewater treatment plant work across North Carolina and South Carolina.
These are not roles where you inherit someone else's problems or wait for work to materialise. The backlog is funded, the clients are established, and the projects are already moving. What's missing is the right PM to lead them.
There is no established PM above you to slow your growth. No ceiling. Just the work, the clients, and the platform to deliver at the level you've been ready for.
What the work looks likeA project pipeline that includes:
- Large-scale drinking water treatment plant design and rehabilitation, including major work tied to a significant regional infrastructure recovery effort
- Multi-phase biosolids improvement programmes running across several years
- A $60M water plant expansion progressing toward construction, with PFAS work running in parallel
- Owner's advisor engagements at active treatment facilities
- Municipal wastewater plant projects addressing incoming nutrient regulations
- On-call contract work spanning studies, design, and advisory services across a high-growth metropolitan market
Total construction value currently in design: $125M+
What the role actually isYou are the PM. That is the job.
Not the sole business developer. Not the technical workhorse filling gaps across a region. Not a player-coach managing direct reports while also delivering. You own projects, you own client relationships, and you deliver treatment plant work at scale — with a strong technical bench behind you when you need it.
The firm's support structure means you can focus entirely on being an exceptional project leader. That's what they're hiring for. That's what they'll measure you on. That's where your growth comes from.
Who this is for- 12–15+ years in water/wastewater engineering, with a clear PM identity in drinking water treatment plant design
- Has owned or is ready to own projects at $3M+ design value — and has the instincts, pace, and client presence to do it without hand-holding
- PE licensed (preferred)
- Based in NC or SC, or genuinely open to relocating — relocation support is available
- Flexible on remote working arrangements
You don't need to be a rainmaker. The work is already there. You need to be the person who can own it, drive it, and grow with it.
Why nowThe Carolinas are in a period of significant water infrastructure investment. This firm is exceptionally well-positioned within it — with established client relationships, funded programmes, and work that will run for years. The engineers haven't followed the wider population migration south yet. That gap is an opportunity, and it is open right now.
If your current role has spread you too thin, kept you behind someone else, or simply hasn't given you the project profile your ability warrants — this is the move that changes that.
To apply or find out moreThis role is being recruited confidentially. The hiring firm will not be named at this stage.
If the above resonates, send a message directly. A conversation costs nothing and could change the trajectory of your next five years.
