What We Are Looking For
Plan, design, program, implement and support monitoring and control systems utilized in the operation of natural gas pipeline compressor stations and related facilities. Engineer/Specialist with extensive, proven experience in successfully designing and programming DeltaV DCS and/or Allen Bradley PLC systems.
This position reports to the Manager in Houston, TX but is not limited to the Houston office and could be filled in other Kinder Morgan office locations including Colorado Springs, CO, Lakewood, CO, or Houston, TX. The position offers a hybrid schedule: office Monday through Wednesday and work from home Thursday and Friday.
Position may be filled at various levels depending on experience and job skills of the successful candidate.
What You Will Do- Design, program, test and maintain PLC/RTU based automation systems (primarily DeltaV DCS, Allen Bradley PLC, and Siemens PLC).
- Design, program, test and maintain PC based HMI systems (primarily DeltaV, Factory Talk View, Wonderware/AVEVA InTouch 9.5, 2012, 2014R2, 2020 and 2023).
- Design and implement automation system networks, specifying and configuring communications protocols, media, and hardware.
- Read and interpret electrical, control and instrumentation drawings and review design/construction packages.
- Interface with other technical/engineering disciplines to ensure integration of automation systems with overall product design.
- Provide technical expertise in mechanical, instrument, electrical, and/or automation specifications and standards as required.
- Specify and procure instrumentation and controls related equipment used in automation systems.
- Provide on-site services, oversee system installation, lead commissioning, and supply troubleshooting support.
- Develop contractor bid documents, conduct bids, select contractor and manage throughout automation capital projects.
- Develop and control capital projects, including scope, schedule, projected costs, risk management, and quality assurance programs for projects ranging from $20,000 to over $2,000,000.
- Provide engineering support to Operations and Technical Support personnel for all related software and hardware.
- Accountable for completing tasks with quality, in compliance with applicable codes and standards, and on schedule.
- Bachelor of Science degree in engineering from an accredited university, or five years of commensurate experience with emphasis in compressor station automation design, project management and technical analysis.
- Minimum of three years of instrumentation, control engineering, systems integration or related experience weighted toward programming, commissioning and maintaining complex industrial control systems.
- Extensive, proven experience designing and programming DeltaV DCS and/or Allen Bradley PLC systems.
- Proven experience configuring and developing HMI applications in DeltaV, Factory Talk View, Wonderware/AVEVA InTouch, and using ArchestrA System Platform.
- Ability to learn additional or new programming languages and skills as needed.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical and mechanical drawings, schematics, piping and instrumentation drawings (P&IDs), flow charts and cause‑and‑effect diagrams.
- Ability to perform job responsibilities with minimal guidance or supervision.
- Proficient in basic engineering skills and possess well-developed analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Maintain high attention to detail while managing multiple assignments with various deadlines.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, able to collaborate with company and non‑company personnel.
- PC‑based skills, including MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Access, PowerPoint and Project).
- Travel 50%–75%, often overnight, to contractor or Kinder Morgan sites for system installation, commissioning and maintenance, including occasional weekend travel.
- Required to carry a company‑provided cell phone and be available to respond during working hours and occasionally during non‑working hours.
