Hybrid arrangement – a mix of work from home and in‑office.

Potential projects include the design of unique, first‑of‑its‑kind nuclear reactor facilities and particle physics laboratories. Project teams can consist of ten or more electrical engineers working together within larger multi‑discipline design teams.

This role gives you the opportunity to be the technical lead of a project team of engineers and designers involved in designing and analysing new electrical systems for the development and testing of next‑generation nuclear science and research. You will lead a team on challenging assignments that include designing electrical distribution systems and new facilities containing laboratories, testing, and research areas, requiring solutions to a wide variety of unique electrical engineering issues.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the development of electrical engineering deliverables, including drawings, calculations, and specifications, and guide other engineers and designers in preparing engineering documents.
  • Act as the electrical discipline lead coordinating design phases for all aspects of site and facility electrical engineering work.
  • Lead efforts to ensure projects are completed satisfactorily, on time, and within budget.
  • Coordinate design activities among electrical engineers to ensure installation and operations comply with specifications, codes, and client requirements.
  • Interface with clients as the electrical discipline lead, providing status updates, preparing RFIs, and clarifying scope.
  • Prepare and review detailed electrical calculations, including arc flash, voltage drop, fault current, and lighting analysis.
  • Prepare documentation for design input for drawing production.
  • Interface with vendors to prepare materials and equipment purchase specifications for client recommendations.
  • Prepare reports and studies that present technical information clearly and concisely and meet client requirements and S&L formats.
  • Perform independent reviews of work performed by others, including calculations and drawing preparation.
  • Develop your career via peer‑learning by sharing knowledge with experienced engineers through S&L’s systems of process and associated Sargent & Lundy “Communities of Practice.”
  • Provide guidance as a mentor in the development of less experienced engineers.

  • 12+ years of experience (ideally in DOE, nuclear Navy, or NNSA) designing electrical engineering systems in a project team environment, focused on integrated, detailed system design for new plants or modifications/replacements for existing plants.
    • Experience must include selection of equipment, layouts, materials, and the preparation of calculations and specifications.
    • Experience is required with creating electrical system drawings and designs including low voltage distribution systems (switch gear, transformers, generators, motors, UPS), communication systems.
  • 3+ years of experience leading an engineering design team through all phases of project design.
  • Technically knowledgeable of available equipment and proven pre‑engineered systems to execute systems design and integration.
  • Experience serving as firm/client liaison in a lead engineering role.
