Our customer is a utility in central Arizona looking to add 2000MW of pumped energy storage to its storage capacity to meet growing demand on its network. We are building a high performing team to deliver this complex EPC heavy civil project and looking for motivated, hands‑on, collaborative innovators, doers, and problem solvers. The project will involve the use of the existing Apache lake as the lower reservoir and creation of an upper reservoir by building dams in the Alchesay Canon, the reservoirs will be connected by underground waterways tunneled into the rock, channeling water down the ~1,200ft drop between the two reservoirs.

The project scope includes significant access roads work development, construction of the upper reservoir with dams and an overflow spillway, underground tunnel waterways in challenging geological and hydrogeological conditions, upper and lower reservoir inlet/outlet structures, hydromechanical equipment, an underground powerhouse, and surface site facilities and buildings. The Electrical scope includes a 500kV system comprising of incoming power lines, above ground takeoff structures, 500 kV cables routed via underground tunnels, 500 kV Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) substation and Generator Step Up (GSU) transformers inside a cavern as well as other BOP electrical equipment (medium voltage transformers, medium voltage switch gear, distribution transformers, low voltage switch gear and panel boards).

The position may be based at the Bechtel project office, home office, or design consultant office, with regular coordination with construction sites, design subcontractor offices and stakeholder locations, as required by project needs.

Site presence will be required during construction, installation, texting and commissioning.

The High Voltage (HV) Electrical Lead will be responsible for engineering, coordination, and technical oversight of the HV electrical network that includes the 500 kV system, GSU transformers, 18 kV Isophase Bus, Generator Circuit Breaker and Current Limiting Reactors. The role supports EPC execution through design development, interface management, constructability, and construction/commissioning support for a large, pumped storage facility comprising underground powerhouse, shafts, tunnels, intake/outlet works, and surface facilities, in accordance with SRP requirements, applicable codes, and Bechtel engineering procedures.

A key part of this role is collaboration with JV partner, Design subcontractor and the Customer. The Senior Electrical Engineer shall work with the team to establish regular meetings with the design subcontractor and other external stakeholders as required and reporting cycles for managing, coordinating, and assuring the design.

The HV Electrical Lead will be a solid leader and collaborator who will be the primary interface with various Owner Furnish Equipment (OFE) suppliers including HV Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS), 138kV Power Transformers, and 35kV Switchgear. In this role, you will utilize individual technical knowledge to interpret, organize, execute, and coordinate with the OFE suppliers for execution scope. You will participate in coordination meetings, project planning, monitoring the schedule, and delivery of critical equipment to ensure that the suppliers are on track to meet the project schedule.

Your technical guidance and recommendations will ensure engineering aspects meet project requirements and remain within scope and budget.

In this role, you will have oversight of all aspects of the scope being executed by the OFE suppliers and coordinate with the Bechtel team to ensure that any input needed by OFE suppliers are being provided in a timely manner. You will participate in technical reviews with the OFE suppliers for critical deliverables.
