Our employee‑owned and multi‑disciplined team is seeking a Professional Mechanical Engineer with extensive experience modeling and designing HVAC, plumbing, and other mechanical systems for industrial and commercial facilities. The successful candidate will join our Facilities Engineering team to support planning, design, construction management, and commissioning services across a diverse portfolio of projects including light and heavy industrial, food & beverage, educational, and commercial facilities.

Responsibilities

• Conduct energy modeling and life‑cycle cost analysis to design sustainable building performance systems.

• Perform equipment selection, sizing, heat‑load analysis, and prepare mechanical plans, specifications, design details, and construction documentation.

• Participate in project development and fee estimating, attend client presentations, interview with code officials, and conduct inspections and assessments at project sites.

• Support project management duties on mechanical‑intensive and large multi‑disciplined projects.

Flexible Work Arrangement

A hybrid schedule of three days in office and two days working from home is available. The position may be located at our Bloomington, MN;
Milwaukee, WI; or Downers Grove, IL offices.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum five years of progressive design experience for HVAC, plumbing, and piping systems in commercial and/or industrial facilities.
  • Registered Professional Engineer in one or more states; ability to obtain reciprocity in additional states.
  • Experience with mechanical HVAC energy modeling.
  • Experience responding to Requests for Proposals and estimating mechanical fees.
  • Proficiency in facility or building load calculations and system analysis per design and client requirements.
  • Ability to size ductwork and/or piping systems.
  • Experience preparing technical specifications, construction cost estimates, and collaborating with drafters on accurate design drawings.
  • Experience conducting construction administration and inspection activities.
  • Knowledge of coordination on multi‑disciplined projects (Architecture, Civil, Electrical, Structural).
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills; ability to articulate technical ideas visually and in writing; ability to lead and participate in client consultations and project meetings.
  • Willingness to travel up to 10% for meetings and site visits; occasional overnight travel may be required.
Advantageous Qualifications
  • Experience with AutoCAD and Revit MEP.
  • Experience with energy‑modeling software such as Trane Trace 3D or similar.
  • Fire protection system design experience.
  • Experience creating air‑balance diagrams, process flow diagrams, equipment general arrangement drawings, and piping/HVAC plan drawings.
  • Experience designing boiler and/or chiller systems for facilities.
  • LEED certification.
Salary Ranges
  • Milwaukee: $93,000 – $123,300
  • Downers Grove: $95,500 – $126,300
