Position Overview
This position is part of the Capital Improvements Program (CIP) in the Transportation & Engineering Division. The role involves engineering activities and construction management related to roadway, bridge, stormwater drainage, and traffic operations projects.
Key Responsibilities- Inspect construction work and document observations.
- Assist with drafting project direction and correspondence to contractors.
- Track quantities for contractor pay applications and review project schedules.
- Review project plans, specifications, and design plans for constructability.
- Respond to citizen questions and concerns.
- Coordinate with county and agency personnel during design review and construction.
- Conduct field inspections, prepare daily diaries, take photographs, and compile progress reports.
- Evaluate change orders, cost estimates, and compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Review traffic control plans, methods of handling traffic (MHTs), and stormwater management plans.
- Coordinate with contractors, supervisors, surveyors, R‑Of‑W agents, utility companies, and county staff.
Construction Manager:
- Minimum 3 years of roadway construction management experience or equivalent.
- Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in construction management or related field.
- Preferred certifications:
Erosion Control Supervisor (ECS), Traffic Control Supervisor (TCS). - Salary range: $70,149.17 – $; target range: $70,149.17 – $91,193.92.
Associate Civil Engineer:
- Minimum 2 years of experience in civil engineering, roadway construction, or related field.
- Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or related field.
- Engineer‑In‑Training (EIT) / Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) certification at time of hire. Preferred ECS, TCS.
- Salary range: $75,761.10 – $; target range: $75,761.10 – $98,489.43.
Exceptional Candidate Traits:
- Background in civil engineering, construction project management, traffic engineering, or transportation engineering.
- Experience with GIS, Adobe Acrobat Pro, Bluebeam, Microsoft Office.
- Public sector experience and construction plan review experience.
- Strong communication, collaboration, initiative, innovation, and resilience.
- Ability to manage multiple complex projects and run large meetings.
