Traffic Engineer

What Your Day Will Look Like

As a traffic engineer, you’ll plan, budget, and deliver traffic engineering projects including traffic operational analysis, traffic microsimulation models, roadway design, signal design, signing and marking, and construction traffic control plans. The traffic engineering designer reports to the project manager.

• Perform traffic engineering planning and design including leading project tasks.
• Conduct investigations and inspections of proposed and existing site conditions, roadways, intersections, signage, signals, pavement markings, and transportation corridors to determine conformance with applicable rules and standards.
• Design traffic control devices, prepare quantity take‑offs, cost estimates, and specifications for transportation construction bid packages for federal, state, and local agencies.
• Perform traffic design operational and safety analysis.
• Write technical reports and create presentations of findings to clients and the public.

• Bachelor of Science in Civil or Transportation Engineering.
• Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in the state of Florida or ability to obtain within 6 months.
• Proficiency in Micro Station, Open Roads, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, VISSIM, Synchro/Sim Traffic, Sidra Intersection, and HCS software.
• Knowledge of Florida Department of Transportation manuals (MUTS, Standard Designs, Traffic Engineering Manual).
• Hybrid position requiring office and field work; ability to use standard office equipment and tolerate varying environmental conditions.
• Physical demands include frequent sitting, moving, standing, and handling items up to 35 lbs. Occasional vehicle operation may be required.
