Electrical Engineer

Job Description

This Electrical Engineer role focuses on designing and implementing electrical control systems for automated material handling equipment. You will work on project-based applications that include developing specifications, creating electrical device layouts, producing schematics and panel drawings, and supporting system commissioning. The position offers the opportunity to collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, contribute to innovative automation solutions, and support a growing organization in the material handling industry.

Responsibilities

+ Meet with clients and internal project teams to define application requirements and produce functional specifications or descriptions of operation documents.

+ Use AutoCAD and AutoCAD Electrical to create electrical designs, including device layouts, schematics, control panel designs, and communication architecture diagrams.

+ Select appropriate electrical components and prepare detailed bills of material for each project.

+ Coordinate the ordering of field components and control panels to support project schedules and installation timelines.

+ Design electrical interfaces to devices such as network I/O, variable speed drives, camera and laser scanner identification systems, and scales.

+ Customize standard products and solutions to meet the unique requirements of each project and client.

+ Work closely with Controls Engineers to integrate electrical designs with control systems and ensure cohesive project solutions.

+ Perform on-site technical checkout of systems, often working directly with installation teams to verify proper installation and operation.

+ Conduct on-site system commissioning at client locations to validate the performance of the controls design and ensure systems meet specifications.

+ Update electrical drawings and documentation to accurate 'as-built' status upon completion of each project.

Essential Skills

+ Associate degree in a relevant technical or engineering discipline.

+ At least 3 years of experience in the material handling industry.

+ Advanced proficiency with AutoCAD and AutoCAD Electrical for electrical design work.

+ Knowledge of 480 VAC three-phase power systems.

+ Ability to calculate system electrical loads and design control panels accordingly.

+ Knowledge of PLCs and their application in automated control systems.

+ Ability to design I/O architectures that accommodate system requirements and support reliable operation.

+ Knowledge of UL508A standards for industrial control panels.

+ Knowledge of NFPA 70 (National Electrical Code) and NFPA 79 (Electrical Standard for Industrial Machinery).

+ Experience creating electrical schematics and layouts for automated equipment and control systems.

+ Experience in electrical design for material handling or automated equipment applications.

Skills & Qualifications

+ Experience working with automated material handling equipment and warehouse execution or control systems.

+ Familiarity with designing interfaces to devices such as network I/O, variable speed drives, camera or laser scanner identification systems, and scales.

+ Experience preparing bills of material and coordinating procurement of electrical components and control panels.

+ Experience collaborating with Controls Engineers and installation teams on integrated automation projects.

+ Ability to customize standard control solutions to meet specific project and client needs.

+ Strong documentation skills, including the ability to maintain accurate as-built drawings and records.

+ Comfort working in a project-based environment with changing priorities and multiple concurrent projects.

+ Interest in contributing to a growing organization within the material handling integration space.

Work Environment

This role offers the flexibility to work remotely based on experience, with travel requirements to the home office at and occasional travel to client sites, typically ranging from 20% to 40%. You will work with modern electrical design tools, including AutoCAD and AutoCAD Electrical, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams involved in automated equipment, control systems, and warehouse execution solutions. On-site work may involve time in industrial or warehouse environments during installation, technical checkout, and system commissioning activities.

The position is project-driven, with a focus on delivering high-quality, reliable automation solutions in a growing and dynamic material handling integration environment.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of West Chester, OH.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $50.00/hr.
