Electrical Design Engineer
This role focuses on designing and developing control system drawing packages and motor control panels while working closely with customers to understand project scope and specifications. The Electrical Design Engineer applies strong electrical design principles, industry codes, and standards to create safe, reliable, and efficient control solutions. Responsibilities:
- Communicate with customers to gather and clarify project scope, requirements, and technical specifications for control system designs.
- Design and develop complete control system drawing packages using AutoCAD and AutoCAD Electrical.
- Design motor control panels that meet performance, safety, and reliability requirements.
- Select appropriate electrical components and parts based on design requirements, technical specifications, and applicable standards.
- Perform power calculations for motor control panels and power distribution panels to ensure proper sizing and performance.
- Conduct fault current calculations and determine short-circuit current ratings (SCCR) for panels and systems.
- Develop, maintain, and improve libraries of electrical symbols and interactive blocks in AutoCAD to support consistent and efficient design work.
- Review, check, and redline the electrical design work produced by others to ensure accuracy, code compliance, and quality.
- Participate in customer design review calls to present concepts, address questions, and incorporate feedback into final designs.
- Apply NEC codes and UL508A requirements to ensure designs comply with relevant electrical standards and regulations.
- Support occasional site surveys by gathering field information to validate designs and ensure they align with real-world conditions.
Essential
Skills:
- Proven experience designing control panels, including motor control panels.
- Strong knowledge of electrical design principles and control system design.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD and AutoCAD Electrical for creating control system drawings and panel layouts.
- Experience designing motor control panels, including component selection, layout, and documentation.
- Working knowledge of NEC (National Electrical Code) requirements as they apply to control panels and electrical systems.
- Familiarity with UL508A standards for industrial control panels.
- Ability to perform power calculations for motor control and power distribution panels.
- Ability to perform fault current calculations and determine SCCR ratings.
- Strong communication skills for interacting with customers and participating in design review calls.
- Attention to detail with the ability to review, check, and redline electrical design documentation.
Additional Skills &
Qualifications:
- Experience developing and maintaining libraries of electrical symbols and interactive blocks in AutoCAD.
- Experience in control system design within the automation field.
- Experience working on projects for large distribution or logistics facilities, such as those used by major parcel or e-commerce organizations.
- Comfort working in a small, dynamic, early-stage environment with evolving processes and responsibilities.
- Ability to travel for site surveys up to approximately 5% of the time.
Work Environment:
This position is primarily remote and based out of a home office, allowing you to perform design and documentation work using AutoCAD and AutoCAD Electrical in a flexible setting. Occasional travel, estimated at less than 5%, may be required for site surveys and on-site reviews at project locations, including large logistics and distribution facilities. You will work as part of a small, agile team in the automation field, with frequent collaboration via calls and virtual meetings and significant opportunities for professional growth and increased responsibility.

Pay and Benefits:
The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $43.00/hr eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
