Protection & Control Engineer

Help power a reliable and safe electric grid. Join a team responsible for designing and supporting substation, transmission, and generation protection and control systems that keep critical infrastructure operating safely and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities

+ Design protection and control systems for substations, transmission lines, and generation equipment.

+ Specify substation equipment, including breakers, transformers, relay panels, switches, capacitor banks, and reactors.

+ Develop protective relay, metering, and SCADA designs using industry standards, regulations, and system requirements.

+ Analyze system data and ratings to support compliance reporting (SPP, NERC, FERC) and system upgrades.

+ Prepare project scopes, cost estimates, and bills of material for capital projects and budget planning.

+ Support operations and construction teams with troubleshooting, testing, failure analysis, and technical problem resolution.

+ Review technical drawings and specifications to ensure compliance with company standards and codes.

+ Provide guidance to designers and technicians by reviewing work and monitoring project progress.

Qualifications

+ Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.

+ Utility experience with substation, generation, or transmission protection and control systems preferred.

+ Knowledge of power system protection, relays, wiring diagrams, schematics, and logic diagrams.

+ Ability to develop relay settings, logic, and elementary drawings.

+ Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.

+ Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

+ Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and databases preferred.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Topeka, KS.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $80.00/hr.
