Experienced Environmental Consultant in Due Diligence

Chicago, IL or Milwaukee, WI. Possibly IN, OH, or flexible US location

Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full‑time basis. No sponsorship is available for this position.

To succeed in this role, you must have a Master of Science in Environmental, Chemical or other related Engineering, Environmental Science, or Geology or a Bachelor of Science in one of these fields with related consulting experience.

For this role, we are looking for someone with 1‑3 years of relevant work experience specifically in conducting environmental due diligence assessments (e.g., Phase I Environmental Site Assessments, environmental compliance reviews, desktop due diligence reviews), and environmental regulatory compliance experience (related to industrial and commercial facilities preferred).

As our new Environmental Consultant, you will be part of a dynamic team providing state‑of‑the‑art scientific, technical, and strategic risk management assistance to an international client base. You will split your time between office‑based work (currently work‑from‑home during the COVID‑19 pandemic) and site visits (including some local/regional travel).

Responsibilities
  • Completing environmental site assessments of commercial and industrial sites.
  • Completing limited environmental compliance reviews of industrial sites, by reviewing and abstracting regulatory requirements for multi‑media environmental compliance.
  • Reviewing site investigation reports and providing conclusions and opinions related to the extent of contamination, recommendations and development of scopes of work for site investigation activities.
  • Preparation of technical reports that effectively communicate (summarize) site findings.
  • Formulating conclusions and opinions and communicating with clients.
  • Travel to industrial and commercial facilities for site visits (typically one day in duration), including both local and non‑local travel (using social distancing procedures and other COVID‑19 precautions as appropriate).
  • Supporting multiple projects and meeting high quality standards on project deliverables.
Required Qualifications
  • A minimum of a BA or BS in Geology, Engineering (Civil, Environmental, Chemical or Geologic Engineering), Environmental Science or Environmentally‑Related Field from an accredited institution and have a minimum of 1‑3 years of experience in environmental consulting. Masters degrees are welcomed but not required.
  • An understanding of the Phase I ESA requirements and the due diligence process. Experience working within the Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A) process is a plus but not required.
  • Possess knowledge of multi‑media environmental compliance topics and general understanding of rules and regulations of the Clean Air Act (CAA), Clean Water Act (CWA), Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), Spill Prevention, Control, and Counter Measure (SPCC), National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES), and Emergency Plan and Community Right‑to‑Know (EPCRA).
  • Classwork or experience with site assessment and investigation, contaminant fate and transport, pollution control and design, regulatory policy, and GIS mapping a plus.
  • Willingness/ability to travel up to 30% of the time on average during the year and possess a valid driver's license. Travel may include overnight stay and may be out of state. Travel duration is typically 1‑2 days, depending upon the specific requirements of each project.
  • The physical requirements of this position may include the need for climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing/sitting/walking, pushing/pulling, and lifting up to 40 lbs. In certain situations this position may expose the candidate to extremes in weather (hot/cold); high noise levels, to hazards such as a proximity to moving machine parts and moving vehicles, electrical current and exposure to chemicals.

Employees may be required to take specific training and to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) on some occasions.

All your information will be kept confidential according to EEO guidelines.
