Position: Senior Electrical Engineer - water/wastewater (remote allowed)

Brown and Caldwell (BC) has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Electrical Engineer to support projects of strategic importance and work independently with occasional guidance on essential and highly complex issues. The role involves a broad range of responsibilities, including electrical design and management activities such as design and equipment upgrades, power system studies including arc flash hazard analysis, low and medium voltage power distribution system design in an industrial setting, equipment design and selection, drawing creation, and plant power layouts.

This role confronts difficult problems related to electrical power distribution systems design, motor control systems design, and lighting systems design that may not have clearly defined solutions.

Position can be based anywhere in the Pacific or Hawaiian time zones. Ideally this position would be based in our Honolulu office on a hybrid (2‑3 days in office a week) work arrangement; relocation assistance is available. For Pacific time zone‑based candidates, periodic travel to Hawaii may be required.

Responsibilities
  • Solve complex electrical engineering problems and assist clients in making critical decisions that affect the operation and reliability of their facilities.
  • Lead the design of low‑ and medium‑voltage power distribution and motor control systems.
  • Plan the coordination of electrical work with civil, structural, and mechanical disciplines, including the allocation of building space for electrical systems and the coordination of electrical raceways with process equipment, piping and structures.
  • Lead the development of construction specifications for electrical equipment and systems.
  • Provide engineering services during construction to guarantee the proper implementation of electrical systems design.
  • Perform short‑circuit, protective device coordination, and arc‑flash studies to ensure safety and efficiency of electrical systems.
  • Effectively plan and track the electrical scope, schedule, and budget to optimize resources and time.
  • Flexibility to adapt and execute various additional assignments based on evolving needs.
Mentorship
  • Provide mentorship, guidance, support, and knowledge‑sharing to help less experienced team members develop their skills and grow within their roles.
Skills and Competencies
  • Capable of independently designing low‑voltage electrical power distribution systems and motor control systems.
  • Proficient in designing medium‑voltage electrical power distribution systems.
  • Strong skills in planning, tracking, and controlling electrical scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Excellent proficiency in conduit, duct bank and cable tray systems design.
  • Ability to coordinate with other disciplines (civil, structural, mechanical) to ensure effective implementation and execution of projects.
Experience
  • Typically, a minimum of 10 years related work experience in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • Professionally licensed.
  • Will become certified in BC's Subject Matter Specialist (SMS) Framework and progress through the SMS competencies.
Preferred Experience
  • 15+ years related work experience in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • Prior experience as an Electrical Engineer working for government, municipal, and/or industrial water and wastewater industries.
  • Ability to work with Designers in Revit/BIM environment along with AutoCAD P&.
  • Experience in industrial power systems design (medium and low voltage systems), service entrance, feeder and branch circuits, lighting, emergency power and power generation and distribution equipment, power systems studies.
  • Solid knowledge in the application of the National Electrical Code.
  • Solid knowledge and understanding of electrical safety systems, NFPA 70E.
  • Effective oral and written communication.
  • Able to multi‑task, enthusiastic, self‑motivated, and work independently with a willingness to learn.
  • Candidate should be a self‑starter, results‑oriented, be able to multi‑task, and work under tight and pressured deadlines.
  • Collaborate with other technical teams for design coordination.
  • Supervisory and mentoring experience with electrical staff.
