Transportation Engineer ; Local Agency Programs - Taylor TSC

Job Overview

The position serves as the recognized resource for Local Agency Projects (LAP) for the Taylor Transportation Service Center (TSC). Responsibilities include working as a liaison and technical expert between the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) and the various local agencies within the TSC service area to administrate assigned construction projects, scope future projects, review project plans and specifications, schedule and coordinate with contractors, utility companies and the public, assist in managing consultants, write reports, oversee and monitor field operations, and perform a variety of related duties for local agency projects.

In addition, this position participates in the performance and/or coordination of random interim local government project reviews and final local government project record reviews with qualified MDOT and/or consultant personnel for final local agency project closeout or quality assurance (QA).

• Administer assigned construction projects within the TSC service area.
• Scope future projects and review project plans and specifications.
• Schedule and coordinate with contractors, utility companies, and the public.
• Assist in managing consultants and write reports.
• Oversee and monitor field operations.
• Participate in random interim local government project reviews and final record reviews for quality assurance and closeout.

• Possession of a bachelor of science degree in engineering.
• Possession of a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering (preferred).

• Three years of professional engineering experience involved in transportation systems and programs equivalent to a Transportation Engineer, including one year equivalent to a Transportation Engineer P11.
• Possession of a registered professional engineer license as required by the State of Michigan (may substitute 6 months of experience for Transportation Engineer 9-12 levels, used only once).

• If applicable, attach a copy of official college transcripts and/or foreign degree evaluation.
• Foreign degree holders must have academic credentials evaluated or converted into U.S. educational equivalents; evaluations may be obtained from the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services or the Association of International Credential Evaluators, Inc.

The position is a Transportation Engineer 12 level. The salary listed reflects the minimum and maximum rates for this level. Remote work and alternate schedules may be considered based on operational needs.
