Job Responsibilities
Coordinate and execute system outages per regulatory guidelines. Receive and process outage requests in accordance with ERCOT reliability guidelines and procedures. Determine whether outage requests contain all required information, conduct security analysis studies as appropriate, and approve or reject the requests. Contact appropriate resource and transmission personnel to coordinate action for outage requests as necessary.
- Receive transmission outage requests.
- Analyze system conditions based on applicable system information and approve or reject outage requests.
- Withdraw approvals when reliability guidelines are violated due to contingencies or other changes in system conditions.
- Coordinate timing of maintenance outages with transmission and resource operators as required.
- Develop, maintain, and implement Outage Coordination Temporary Outage Action Plans (OCTOAP) in conjunction with support operations engineers.
- Prepare briefing information for control room personnel regarding transmission system conditions, generation limitations, outages, significant events, unplanned outages, and procedural changes.
- Conduct daily outage security meetings with control room personnel.
- Coordinate with all aspects of system operations to maximize availability of the ERCOT transmission system within reliability criteria.
- Schedule and implement planned outages and maintenance outages of RMR, Synchronous Condenser, and Black Start resources with transmission outages.
- Approve or reject reliability resource planned outages.
- Process resource outages in accordance with ERCOT protocols, guides, and procedures.
- Produce daily and monthly reports and document study information and significant events.
- Provide support to new resource and transmission outage submittal contacts contacted with digital certificates for entering outages into the Outage Scheduler application.
- Monitor performance of resources and TSPs with respect to outage schedule updates.
- Recommend appropriate changes to one‑line diagrams and system displays.
- Coordinate with support personnel to implement system changes, identify contingencies, and update network mode.
- Provide on‑the‑job training or help oversee the work of other engineers/analysts; act as a mentor and advisor to less experienced engineers/analysts.
- Work independently on assignments and projects; participate in multifunctional teams to obtain input and address comments.
- Assist in developing tools, processes, and procedures that enhance system reliability and departmental/organization efficiencies.
- Participate with other ERCOT departments to select and implement system changes as needed.
- Level 3:
Minimum 3 years of job‑related work experience beyond degree requirements. - Senior:
Minimum 5 years of job‑related work experience beyond degree requirements.
- Experience with STNET, WebFG‑STNET, or Grid Geo.
- High School Diploma or GED (required).
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field (preferred) or a combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge.
- NERC Certification (preferred).
- ERCOT System Operator (preferred).
Shift schedule, no nights. Must be willing to work weekends and holidays when required.
Work LocationTaylor, TX:
Employees will be required to be on‑site at least 2 days per week, or more, as needed. Remote work may be performed from a Texas residence.
Expected Salary Range: $118,000 - $163,000
