Job Description & How to Apply Below
Location: Germany
Do you want to dive deep into the technical core of next-generation microscopy systems? In this expert role, you take ownership of the signal chain - from sensor to data - focusing on high-performance measurement, control, and data acquisition. You design and prototype measurement modes, data streams and performance evaluations. You understand the potential of FPGA-based processing and closed-loop control, and advanced signal detection schemes.
Working at the intersection of physics, electronics, and software, you turn concepts into robust, high-performance implementations.
- Conceptualize and prototype hardware and firmware solutions for measurement modes for microscopy
- Develop and optimize closed-loop control systems (e.g. PLL, lock-in detection, feedback loops) for high-precision measurements
- Specify, evaluate, and integrate key electronic components (A/D, D/A, amplifiers, drivers, detectors) with a focus on signal integrity and noise performance
- Understand novel measurement schemes in the scientific community or from customer and bring them to implementation
- Executing Proof-of-concept studies and bringing them until implementation in customized system or production
- Build and validate laboratory setups and prototypes, including hands‑on testing, debugging, and iterative optimization
- Collaborate closely with system, software, and electronics teams to translate concepts into robust, scalable solutions
Skills and Qualifications
- PhD or master’s degree in physics, control engineering or a related field
- Several years of experience in the development of SPM
- In-depth knowledge of Scanning Probe Microscopy and their control electronics
- Preferable experience with optics and lasers
- Deep technical knowledge on control engineering, microscopy, electronics and software
- Ability to explain complex technological concepts and translate them into specifications
- An exciting position at an internationally active, established medium-sized company with flat hierarchies and short decision‑making processes
- Flexibility for goal‑ and results‑oriented work in a collegial, open, and respectful working environment
- Support for freedom and flexibility regarding working hours and home office, plus 30 vacation days per year
- Thorough onboarding is very important to us – you will benefit from an individual onboarding program and an atto Buddy to support you
- Lifelong learning supported through targeted training opportunities
- State‑of‑the‑art office building with good connections to the Munich S-Bahn network, employee parking, Job Rad program, bicycle parking, and shower facilities
- Attractive employee discounts through Corporate Benefits
- Company and team events to ensure work is also fun
- Health support through our atto
Care program, company pension scheme, and dedicated health days - Free fresh fruit and beverages, as well as daily freshly prepared meals in our subsidized company restaurant
- EGYM membership
