This position collaborates with a team of experienced engineers at EGLE to resolve complex issues. The surface water treatment engineer assists with performing sanitary surveys, surveillance visits, and reviewing plans, specifications, and permit applications for community water supplies which have treatment plants subject to the Surface Water Treatment Rules. The surface water treatment engineer also assists with reviewing monthly operation reports and serves as a contact for communities subject to the Surface Water Treatment Rules.

Environmental Engineer 9-P11

The surface water engineer performs engineering review and surveillance of public water supplies as defined by the Michigan Safe Drinking Water Act (Act 399, PA 1976, as amended) for surface water systems. The activities consist of, or are related to, evaluation, construction, and surveillance and monitoring of surface water treatment for these public water supplies. The surface water engineer also performs the first‑line engineering review of construction permit applications and supporting documentation.

The following duties are to be assigned to Genesee, Lapeer, Gratiot, Isabella, Saginaw, Sanilac, Midland, Bay, Arenac, Iosco, Alpena, Mackinac, Chippewa, Schoolcraft, Delta, Menominee, Marquette, Baraga and Ontonagon Counties.

Environmental Engineer Licensed 12

This position functions as the recognized resource for the engineering review and issuance of construction permits for all surface water treatment plants for a specified geographic area (Genesee, Lapeer, Gratiot, Isabella, Saginaw, Sanilac, Midland, Bay, Arenac, Iosco, Alpena, Mackinac, Chippewa, Schoolcraft, Delta, Menominee, Marquette, Baraga and Ontonagon counties). This position will also be responsible for reviewing technical documents and analyzing technical data related to surface water systems.

The work location of these positions will be either the Bay City, Cadillac, Gaylord, or Marquette District Office, depending on the selected candidate. Hybrid or fully remote work schedules may be available. Employees approved for remote work must complete that work within Michigan and must use a designated workspace that is safe, professionally appropriate, allows for privacy, minimizes distractions, and includes secure internet access.

Education

Possession of a bachelor's degree in engineering.

Experience
  • Environmental Engineer 9:
    No specific type or amount is required.
  • Environmental Engineer 10:
    One year of professional environmental engineering experience in the protection and improvement of land and water resources, occupational health, or air quality equivalent to an Environmental Engineer 9.
  • Environmental Engineer P11:
    Two years of professional environmental engineering experience in the protection and improvement of land and water resources, occupational health, or air quality equivalent to an Environmental Engineer, including one year equivalent to Environmental Engineer 10.
