We are looking for a Distribution Automation Engineer to support the deployment and integration of smart grid technologies across our electric distribution system. This is a hybrid position based in Minneapolis, MN, requiring a combination of onsite and remote work.
You will configure, test, monitor, and integrate automated field devices, including capacitor bank controllers and protection devices, into our Advanced Distribution Management System (ADMS). You will work with engineering, design, and field operations teams.
Responsibilities include performing system studies, developing device settings, maintaining field device databases, supporting communications testing, and providing technical assistance for distribution automation projects.
You will report directly to the Distribution Automation Engineering Manager and partner with system engineers, field personnel, operations teams, and distribution planning professionals.
Key Responsibilities- Support deployment of automated field devices, including:
- Capacitor bank controllers
- Protection devices
- Reclosers
- Advanced metering technologies
- Perform distribution system studies and engineering analysis.
- Develop and validate device settings and configurations.
- Work with engineering and field personnel to support implementation activities.
- Update automated device databases.
- Support integration of field devices into Advanced Distribution Management Systems (ADMS).
- Monitor device performance and troubleshoot operational issues.
- Help assess and validate advanced metering functionality.
- Conduct communications and functionality testing of field devices.
- Track and document field issues and resolutions.
- Provide technical support to field operations teams.
- Support utility automation projects, including Volt/VAR Optimization and system reliability programs.
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering with Power Systems emphasis.
- 2–3 years of engineering experience in utility, power systems, distribution automation, or related industries.
- Hands‑on experience with:
- Eaton Cooper Capacitor Bank Controllers
- SEL (Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories) Protection Devices
- Advanced Distribution Management Systems (ADMS)
- Familiarity with electric distribution systems and utility operations.

Base salary range: $37.00/hour to $41.00/hour, depending on experience, qualifications, and skills.
