Engineer I – SubstationWe are looking for an Engineer I – Substation to join our engineering team in Madison, WI. The role is a hybrid‑remote position reporting to the Madison office; candidates must reside in Wisconsin and be willing to make occasional site visits and day‑trip travel within our service territory.
Responsibilities- Assist in the design and layout of electrical substations, including equipment selection, sizing, and configuration.
- Ensure adherence to company and client standards, guidelines, specifications, practices, and procedures in preparing design drawings.
- Maintain compliance with industry standards, codes, and regulations in all substation designs and projects.
- Prepare engineering drawings, specifications, and technical reports for substation projects.
- Assist in the preparation and review of construction documents, including bills of materials and construction specifications.
- Assist in the preparation of detailed engineering calculations, including grounding, AC and DC loading, bus sizing, cable sizing, and other standard methods and principles.
- Assist in the evaluation and selection of substation equipment and materials.
- Prepare and issue requests for materials or services to potential suppliers, ensuring clear and comprehensive specifications and requirements.
- Conduct site visits and inspections to assess existing substation conditions and identify potential issues.
- Coordinate with external consultants, vendors, and contractors to ensure the successful execution of substation design projects.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including engineers, technicians, and project managers, to ensure project objectives are met.
- Support project managers in project planning, scheduling, and cost estimation.
- Assist in the preparation of technical reports, proposals, and cost estimates for substation projects.
- Engage in other duties as needed that support Alliant Energy’s values and help deliver on our purpose.
· Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited engineering program.
Preferred Experience- Previous technical and/or professional experience in substation design or related electrical engineering field.
- Internship or co‑op experience in engineering.
- Effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in computer software programs (e.g., e‑mail, word processing, spreadsheets, and project management tools).
