Position: Design Engineer I

New Leaf Energy is an experienced clean energy developer that partners with landowners, policymakers, and other stakeholders to accelerate the transition to a world powered by renewable energy. We identify high-value sites, work with landowners and local communities to develop them, and partner with long-term asset owners to bring the most impactful clean energy projects to life.

Position Design Engineer I — This position may be based in Lowell or Boston, MA. We value in-person collaboration and offer a hybrid work environment. Hybrid employees work in the office at least two days per week (Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday) and may work from home on other days.

Position Summary

The Design Engineer I will design, review, and entitle designs for commercial, government and utility solar PV projects ranging in size from 3 MW AC to 300 MW AC. This role supports 15-25 projects simultaneously and has broad visibility across the organization. You will work with a team of design engineers, civil engineers, and project developers.

Position responsibilities

  • Work with the design team in evaluating and performing feasibility analysis on potential sites.
  • Collaborate with the project design, electrical, and civil engineering teams to design site use permit plan sets and bid-level (50%) drawings used for permitting and the IPP bidding process.
  • Design projects according to New Leaf Energy Design Standards and train new employees on the standards.
  • Complete the review process for each job through milestone drawing releases.
  • Participate in a continuous improvement environment, focusing on improving training materials.
  • Assist with permitting and bidding administration as needed, advising the project team on design/production modeling considerations as questions arise from AHJ or bidding IPP.
  • Contribute to infrastructure design and offer new perspectives; initiative and recommendations are encouraged.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Desired Qualifications

  • 1-3 years’ experience preferred.
  • Completion of at least 40 NABCEP credits preferred.
  • Ability to multi-task and manage multiple projects and tasks.
  • Solid written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively communicate design concepts to internal stakeholders including project developers and regional technical leads.
  • Computer proficiency with AutoCAD, PV Case, PVSyst.

Compensation

New Leaf Energy compensates all employees through base salary, above-market variable compensation, and an equity-like program. We use a data-driven methodology to calibrate compensation that is externally competitive and internally equitable, guided by our compensation manual.

The likely base salary range for this position in the Boston location is $81,352-$94,544. The on-target annual cash bonus is 10% of base salary. Your actual salary may be above, within, or below this range, depending on location and experience.
