Job Description Summary

Assistant Commissioning Manager supports planning, execution, and oversight of testing and commissioning activities for SOLV Energy’s High‑Voltage (HV), Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), and Photovoltaic (PV) projects. Works closely with the Commissioning Manager and technical subject‑matter experts to ensure all systems and components are installed, tested, and commissioned in accordance with project requirements, safety standards, and industry best practices.

Helps manage project‑level commissioning teams and coordinates with cross‑functional stakeholders to ensure a seamless transition from commissioning through project closeout. Plays a key role in delivering high‑quality, reliable, and fully operable renewable energy assets. Hybrid location with onsite presence required at job sites and partial remote work.

Responsibilities and Duties
  • Manage commissioning team, providing guidance, training and support for efficient execution of tasks.
  • Report daily status of each project to the Commissioning Manager.
  • Review technical, contractual and regulatory requirements; assist in developing project milestone and deliverables list, commissioning plan and procedures.
  • Communicate with OEM suppliers regarding equipment‑specific testing and commissioning activities.
  • Coordinate with engineering, construction and quality assurance teams to ensure alignment of all commissioning activities.
  • Assist with development of integrated P6 testing and commissioning schedules; update schedule weekly.
  • Assist with development of commissioning resource plan.
  • Review initial energization procedures and assist Commissioning Engineer with switching activities; perform subsequent switching of MVAC collection and auxiliary power circuits during facility hot commissioning.
  • Develop switching plans and lock‑out/tag‑out (LOTO) procedures.
  • Identify, analyze and recommend corrective actions for technical issues during commissioning or initial operation.
  • Support development of standards and processes to improve business.
  • Manage all pre‑commissioning, cold, warm and hot commissioning tests, including synchronization, functional testing, utility capability testing and project acceptance testing for BESS, HV or PV plant systems.
  • Ensure all commissioning activities comply with industry standards, safety protocols and environmental regulations.
  • Prepare daily commissioning reports, review test results, issues and corrective actions.
  • Monitor project timelines and resources for successful delivery.
  • Continuously improve commissioning processes by incorporating lessons learned from completed projects.
  • Prepare and maintain Lessons Learned and equipment warranty tracking logs.
  • Establish and manage safety programs (Safety Tagging, Lockout, Red Rope, Work Permit) ensuring site compliance throughout commissioning and Substantial Completion.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge and commissioning of utility‑scale solar, battery storage and high‑voltage substations.
  • Experience with HV and MV switching operations and equipment grounding.
  • Experience with site lock‑out/tag‑out (LOTO) safety program procedures.
  • Knowledge of substation protection and control (P&C) systems.
  • Knowledge of fiber installation and test requirements.
  • SCADA system understanding, testing and commissioning requirements.
  • DC systems architecture and testing requirements.
  • Knowledge of NFPA/NEC, IEEE/IES/API, NETA and related standards for utility‑scale solar generation.
  • Understanding of commercial performance of power plants.
  • Working knowledge of NERC compliance, ISO and TSO testing and operational requirements.
  • Familiarity with DCS/SCADA control systems and methods for utility‑scale generation.
  • Knowledge of microprocessor protective relay testing (preferred).
  • Functional competencies: attention to detail, communication, customer focus, prioritization and drive.
  • Safety leadership, reinforcing safe work practices and addressing at‑risk behaviors.
