Overview
Parsons is seeking a talented Drainage Engineer II to join our team on full-time basis to support major transportation projects across the nation. The role focuses on delivering design for high-profile, large-scale corridors and contributing to mobility, safety, and reliability for communities we serve. The position is hybrid, and the selected candidate should be centrally located to one of our Parsons offices for in-person collaboration.
WhatYou'll Be Doing
- Support hydrologic and hydraulic (H&H) analysis and design of roadway drainage systems, including ditches, storm sewers, culverts, and cross drainage structures along a high-profile interstate corridor
- Prepare and review drainage reports, calculations, and design documentation in accordance with state DOT, FHWA, and applicable standards to advance environmental review, design, and implementation
- Develop and refine drainage layouts, plans, profiles, and details within a multidisciplinary team, coordinating with roadway, structures, environmental, and traffic design disciplines
- Evaluate stormwater management and BMPs to support environmental compliance and NEPA commitments, aiming to minimize impacts to communities and natural resources
- Assist with responses to review comments from state DOTs, FHWA, and other stakeholders to address technical issues and maintain project schedules on fast-paced, nationally significant programs
- Support quantity development, cost estimates, and design criteria documentation for drainage elements within the broader delivery framework
- Participate in internal and external coordination meetings, sharing drainage insights to inform design decisions for complex, multi-segment interstate improvements
- Work in a hybrid capacity, collaborating in person with the project team while leveraging remote work flexibility
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline (or equivalent)
- 5+ years of progressive experience in roadway/highway drainage design, hydrology, and hydraulics for transportation projects
- Working knowledge of Bentley software (Micro Station, Open Roads Designer Drainage Module, Project Wise, Pond Pak)
- Experience with standard H&H software tools (e.g., FHWA HY-8 Culvert Analysis & Design, FHWA Hydraulic Toolbox, HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS) and preparing drainage reports, calculations, and plan sets
- Demonstrated experience applying state DOT and/or FHWA drainage design standards on transportation projects
- Professional Engineer (PE) licensure or ability to obtain it in the near term
- Ability to work in a hybrid model and be located near a Parsons office for in-person collaboration
- Experience delivering drainage design on interstate, managed lanes, or large corridor projects in fast-growing urban or suburban environments
- Familiarity with state DOT standards, procedures, and plan preparation requirements on state DOT projects
- Experience working in multidisciplinary teams on complex, schedule-driven programs, including P3 or design-build projects
- Knowledge of stormwater management, erosion and sediment control, and environmental permitting considerations supporting NEPA and FHWA requirements
- Strong communication skills and a drive to grow your career on a high-visibility, nationally significant transportation program
