Position: Field Engineer I - Central/Northern Virginia

Role:
Field Engineer I in Central/Northern Virginia. This is a field-based position that offers a company car, gas card, cell phone and laptop, with all vehicle maintenance covered by Quidel Ortho. The field-based position covers customers throughout the Central and Northern Virginia area.

Responsibilities
  • Install, operate, maintain, repair, and modify electromechanical equipment, preferably in the field.
  • Troubleshoot technical problems and systems issues; determine technical solutions in accordance with product and customer specifications; communicate recommendations to company or customer representatives.
  • Conduct technical analysis of product implementations, modifications, and enhancements to align with customer specifications.
  • Assess customer needs and recommend solutions in line with product specifications.
  • Provide technical training and product briefings with customers, vendors and company representatives as needed.
  • Act as local on-site representative to the customer’s organization.
  • Manage territory responsibilities including preventive maintenance and upgrades (software and hardware).
  • Provide service support in hospital/clinic laboratory environments.
  • Responsible for parts management, online training, and administrative expense reporting.
  • Perform other work-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Education:

    Minimum of an Associate's degree in Electronics or Electrical/Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent 4 years of military or field service experience.
  • Experience:

    Minimum 4 years installing, operating, maintaining, repairing, and modifying electromechanical equipment, preferably in the field.
  • Strong team player who is self-motivated and interacts effectively with peers, sales counterparts, and customers.
  • Ability to organize and express ideas clearly, verbally and in writing, in individual or group settings.
  • Extensive technical knowledge in electro-mechanical, chemistry, computer and related disciplines; capable of applying knowledge to job functions with competence.
  • Ability to manage workload within deadlines.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 75 lbs; valid driver’s license required.
  • Travel:
    Ability to travel overnight 50-75% during training; after training, up to 75% travel with occasional overnight trips (1-2 nights/week).
  • Not currently eligible for visa sponsorship.
Preferred
  • Experience with in Healthcare or Medical Device industry.
Work Environment & Physical Demands
  • Typical work hours with overtime in a field engineer environment; ability to work autonomously in a home office environment.
  • Must maintain a valid driver’s license and own/maintain a vehicle suitable for travel to customer sites.
  • Travel includes airplane, train, automobile, and overnights. On a typical workday, 80% in meetings with people, 20% on computer/paperwork/phone.
  • Physical demands: close/distance/peripheral vision, depth perception; frequent hand use; standing, walking, bending, twisting, reaching; occasionally kneeling, squatting, balancing; travel up to 75%.
Salary & Benefits

The salary range for this position is $65,000 to $85,000 and is bonus eligible. Quidel Ortho offers a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance, along with a 401(k) plan, employee assistance program, Employee Stock Purchase Plan, paid time off (including sick time) and paid holidays. Benefits are non-contractual and may be amended or terminated at the company’s discretion.
