Civil Engineer Position
This Civil Engineer position offers the opportunity to lead projects from initial concept through final design and construction support, with a strong focus on site design, utilities, and stormwater systems. You will work closely with clients, municipalities, and internal teams, taking a hands-on role in technical design while mentoring junior staff and contributing to project success, business development, and long-term firm growth.
Although you will be heavily involved with power utility and substation projects, prior experience in these areas is not required, making this an excellent role for an experienced civil/site engineer seeking increased responsibility and impact.
- Use AutoCAD Civil 3D to design comprehensive site layouts, grading plans, and utility systems for residential, commercial, and industrial developments.
- Review municipal zoning ordinances, land development regulations, and agency requirements to ensure designs comply with applicable standards and local codes.
- Perform utility service research and site visits to establish design parameters, confirm existing conditions, and evaluate project feasibility.
- Create detailed concept drawings based on client objectives and due diligence findings, translating project requirements into clear, buildable designs.
- Coordinate with CAD technicians to produce accurate and complete design documentation, ensuring consistency and quality across project deliverables.
- Lead the design and analysis of stormwater systems using Civil 3D and hydrology software, including pipe sizing, drainage area mapping, and hydraulic grade line evaluations.
- Develop grading plans that promote efficient earthwork balancing, site safety, and compliance with engineering best practices and design slope requirements.
- Plan and design stormwater, sanitary sewer, water, gas, and communication utility systems, including pump stations, while identifying and resolving vertical and horizontal utility conflicts.
- Design erosion control measures, perform stability calculations, and establish construction sequencing using best management practices to maintain environmental compliance.
- Prepare detailed cost estimates for site improvements to support bonding requirements, client budgeting, and project financial planning.
- Take an active role in mentoring engineers by reviewing design work, providing technical guidance, and ensuring adherence to quality standards and project procedures.
- Coordinate design activities and project meetings among internal staff, subcontractors, and clients to maintain clear communication and alignment on project goals.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, vendors, and subcontractors to support repeat business and long-term partnerships.
- Plan and schedule work effectively, managing priorities and resources to complete assignments within established budgets and timelines.
- Contribute to business development efforts by supporting proposals, strengthening client relationships, and helping grow the civil/site practice.
- B.S. in Civil Engineering.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license required, with Ohio licensure preferred.
- Minimum of 5+ years of relevant civil/site engineering experience.
- Technical proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D for site design, grading, and utilities.
- Experience designing site layouts from concept through completion, including coordination with other disciplines.
- Strong civil engineering fundamentals in site development, grading, drainage, and utility design.
- Ability to plan, schedule, and manage work to meet budgets and timelines.
- Proven ability to build and maintain strong relationships with clients.
- Capability to mentor junior engineers and review design work for quality and accuracy.

- Experience with project management activities, including coordination with multidisciplinary teams.
- Comfort working with structural and electrical engineering teams on integrated project solutions.
