Senior Product Safety Engineer

Overview

Senior Staff Engineer - Product Safety is responsible for bringing to market our next generation of industry-leading products across the Stryker Instruments portfolio. Work with a cross-functional leadership team to support the development and execution of the Product Safety organization’s strategic vision, enabling the consistent execution of safety activities for all products throughout the product life-cycle. Serve as a recognized expert and leader in Product Safety engineering, with a passion for system design and mentoring others.

• Work with Research and Development (R&D) teams to define and implement product safety program plans for large, complex development programs within Stryker Instruments.
• Apply broad knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures for product design conformance to US and international electrical and mechanical product safety standards, regulations, and initiatives.
• Provide direction and support to lab personnel regarding compliance testing, design, and sustainment of engineering teams in relation to product safety issues and testing.
• Create product safety test plans and ensure they meet the needs of 3rd party certifiers and internal testing requirements.
• Support maintaining a framework for developing early-career engineers in the Product Safety discipline.
• Interact with nationally Recognized Test Labs (NRTLs) and external organizations to meet certification requirements for products.
• Ensure that test plans developed by the Product Safety team can be completed.
• Provide strategic technical leadership to resolve complex safety considerations across all phases of a product’s life-cycle (development, test, operation).
• Steer future technology roadmaps by participating in technology/methodology trade studies and R&D programs.

• Required:
  
  Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a related engineering field from an accredited college or university; 6+ years of relevant engineering experience.
• Strong communication skills (oral and written).
• Proficient with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word).
• Competent in product design theory and application as applied to electrical hardware and architecture, microcontrollers, microprocessors, wireless technologies, and embedded systems; familiarity with mechanical components and products.

• Understanding of IEC standards and regulatory compliance standards.
• Viewed as a divisional resource in area of expertise.

• Work within standards including IEC 60601-1, IEC 60601-1-2, IEC 60529, IEC 61000 Series, UL 746C, IEC 61010-1, ISO 17025.

• Salary range: $102,600 - $171,000 USD annually.
• Travel:
  Approximately 10%.
• Work Flexibility:
  Hybrid;
  Remote work may be possible with majority time from an alternate workplace. Field-based and Onsite options may apply depending on role. Some roles may be 100% remote or 100% onsite as defined by job requirements.
