Overview

Fire Protection Engineer (FPE) at Above Group. The FPE shall contribute to Fire Protection engineering, fire and life safety systems, code compliance, and risk assessment efforts for the firm. The ideal candidate will be capable of developing comprehensive fire protection plans and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams. The FPE is responsible for contributing to the growth of the team by leading and mentoring them in expanding their capabilities and contributions, and will execute engineering and design duties as required to ensure quality products.

Responsibilities
  • The Fire Protection Engineer (FPE) contributes to project work as an Engineer by education and experience, applying codes and standards to implement design criteria and leading design efforts.
  • Lead and mentor subordinate staff where applicable; act as Engineer of Record from concept through construction documents and construction administration.
  • Develop and design fire protection plans, including fire protection, fire alarm, and life safety systems; knowledge of HVAC, mechanical, plumbing, and utility systems is a plus; healthcare facility and central plant experience preferred.
  • Advance organizational skills including technical writing and time management; author Basis of Design (BOD) narratives, design criteria documents, engineering reports, and other technical documents; respond to RFIs and prepare meeting notes; maintain project design files.
Engineering Design and Technical Competencies
  • Experience with hydraulic calculations, fire pump sizing, and fire alarm battery sizing.
  • Design layout of distribution systems and equipment locations in coordination with team members across disciplines.
  • Proficient with design drawing software including Revit and AutoCAD.
  • Perform system calculations, size and select components; review shop drawings and conduct field verification.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience (post degree) with an MEP engineering firm or AE firm.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license; current/active NCEES registration in good standing.
  • Proficient in REVIT.
  • Desire and ability to work remote; local candidates may work in the office or on a hybrid schedule.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident of the U.S.
