Overview
Senior Mechanical Engineer role in the Richmond office of Thompson Consulting Engineers. Provide engineering and consulting services to clients throughout the project lifecycle. Reports to the Chief Operating Officer.
Responsibilities- Perform all aspects of mechanical engineering design (specifically HVAC engineering and design) as a senior or lead engineer, including conceptual studies, program requirements, design analyses, calculations, equipment selection and layout, and system selection and layout.
- Meet with clients to prepare and/or validate proposed scope of work.
- Manage mechanical or the mechanical portion of projects, and work with assigned project managers to meet client budget, contract fees, goals, objectives, and deadlines.
- Coordinate and communicate all aspects of mechanical design within multidisciplinary teams.
- Direct, supervise, train, and ensure quality control of junior mechanical engineers and designers and/or commissioning staff.
- Ensure compliance with quality control policies and procedures and provide QC reviews for other engineers and designers.
- Prepare accurate and complete mechanical project programming, schematic designs, design development designs, and construction documents.
- Provide and supervise mechanical support services during bidding, including preparing addenda, amendments, open bids, and bid tabulations.
- Perform and supervise mechanical construction phase services on-site, answer RFIs, review shop drawings, and prepare as-builts.
- Prepare commissioning proposals (scope and fee), commissioning plans and reports; conduct project reviews as part of commissioning.
- Prepare and witness Prefunctional Checks (PCs) and Functional Performance Tests (FPTs).
- Prepare Operation and Maintenance Support Information (OMSI) Manuals.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university.
- 8+ years of relevant experience in the K-12, office, commercial, retail, data center, municipal and government markets.
- Professional Engineer license in the state of Virginia, or ability to obtain licensure immediately.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and Autodesk Revit (latest versions).
- LEED Accreditation preferred.
- Ability to work with limited direction and to take direction from various departments and levels.
- Design and construction administration experience in K-12, office, commercial, retail, data center, and municipal government markets.
- Strong leadership capabilities.
- Excellent communication and critical thinking skills.
- Commitment to respond to clients at the highest levels.

The salary range for this position is $105,000–$145,000, depending on experience and qualifications.
