The salary range is a good faith estimate and may vary. Specific ranges for roles include:

• Lead Engineer – Market Design: $138,000 - $151,000
• Senior Engineer II – Market Design: $125,000 - $137,000
• Senior Engineer – Market Design: $108,000 - $123,000

The Engineer is responsible for understanding current market design, recommending and analyzing design changes, and supporting market design expertise. This role engages with multiple stakeholders to facilitate market design changes and ensure alignment with market policy and processes. The Engineer will collaborate with SPP Operations, Legal, Regulatory, Settlements, Training, and other Markets departments to ensure software and processes reflect the market design.

Engagement with market participants, vendors, FERC, and other RTOs/ISOs is expected to support changes to SPP's market design and policy. The Engineer may lead market design discussions, develop market metrics and reports, and present changes to stakeholder committees and working groups.

Core Responsibilities

• Understand and apply the Company’s market rules to key business functions.
• Coordinate with SPP market participants and member companies.
• Analyze market data for indications of market weaknesses through ad hoc analysis.
• Document analyses in written reports and communicate findings to internal and external stakeholders.
• Provide technical expertise to SPP committees and working groups.
• Support FERC filings by providing data and drafting letters and testimony.
• Comply with SPP Policies and Procedures.
• Maintain accountability in decision-making and deadlines.
• Research market design in other RTOs/ISOs.
• Facilitate market design changes through the SPP stakeholder process.
• Support Working Groups as necessary.
• Develop education materials and support training of junior staff and participants.

Specific Core Responsibilities - Lead Engineer – Market Design

• Develop and maintain market simulation and design assessment platforms.
• Provide leadership and engineering judgment for market design and analysis.
• Recommend market design changes to management and support initiatives through the stakeholder process.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (ABET-accredited) in a calculus-based field. Preferred:
  Electrical, Computer, Industrial, Mechanical, or Systems Engineering.

Experience by Role

• Lead Engineer – Market Design: 12 years of relevant engineering experience; or 11 years with a Master’s; or 10 years with a Doctoral degree. A Professional Engineer license is required or may be substituted by extensive experience.
• Senior Engineer II – Market Design: 9 years of relevant experience;
  Professional Engineer license or an Advanced degree may satisfy part of the requirement.
• Senior Engineer – Market Design: 5 years of relevant engineering experience; PE license may satisfy one year of experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Advanced degree in economics, math, or related field is preferred
• Experience with data manipulation and large datasets
• Experience in the utility industry and energy markets
• Experience with RTO/ISO market formulations and optimization
• Experience prototyping market changes or software used to study market changes

Other Requirements

• Ability to manage complex analysis projects and coordinate cross-team initiatives
• Strong facilitation, presentation, and communication skills
• Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and data handling software
• Ability to train junior staff

Hours and Travel

This is a full-time position with typical hours Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Hours may vary and occasional extended hours may be required. Travel: moderate (
