As a Transportation Construction Inspector with the Department of Transportation, you will help ensure that roadway construction follows proper rules and guidelines. This position supports the inspection, review and documentation of highway construction activities to ensure compliance with permit requirements and safety standards. The work helps maintain safe and reliable travel routes throughout the region. As a Transportation Construction Inspector, you will perform the following duties:
- Construction Inspection: Review ongoing and completed permit work to verify compliance with Department regulations
- Material Verification: Inspect placement of concrete, drainage materials and other required construction components
- Plan Interpretation: Evaluate construction plans and determine when specialist assistance is needed
- Compliance Enforcement: Identify violations and prescribe corrective actions in a fair and documented manner
- Field Measurements: Confirm sight distances, setbacks and roadway conditions through independent field checks
- Public Coordination: Work with applicants, utilities, and municipal officials to explain standards and resolve issues

Work Schedule and Additional Information- Full-time employment
- Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
- You will work closely with vendors and work hours may change based on vendor availability and weather.
- Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, on an ad-hoc basis. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Bridgeville. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time.
Additional details may be provided during the interview. - Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $46,827 (before taxes).

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- One year as an Engineering Technician (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration)
- Two years as a Transportation Technician or Construction Cost Technician 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration)
- Three years of experience in highway or bridge surveying, design, construction, or inspection work
- Three years of experience in quality control of materials or in building or construction industry experience, which includes reading and interpreting blueprints, plans, or schematics
- One year of construction inspection experience and an associate’s degree in civil engineering, mechanical engineering, geotechnical engineering, surveying engineering technology, or a closely related engineering technology
- An equivalent combination of experience and training
- This position requires possession of an active non-commercial Pennsylvania Class C Driver’s License or equivalent.
