Job Title: Nuclear Project Engineer

Location: Hancock's Bridge, NJ 08038 (Hybrid: Initial onsite setup + onsite visits)

Job Summary: The Nuclear Project Engineer serves as the Owner’s Engineer for the Salem Power Uprate project, coordinating the planning, design, fabrication, installation, and commissioning phases of the modification. The role provides technical leadership across the full lifecycle, ensuring engineering accuracy, regulatory compliance, and successful integration of upgraded systems into the nuclear generating fleet. While primarily working remotely during planning and design, the engineer will travel to the client site for installation support and to meet project requirements.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the planning, scoping, and technical evaluation of plant configuration changes, ensuring alignment with nuclear safety and regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate development, review, and approval of engineering design documents, calculations, drawings, and specifications.
  • Manage multidisciplinary engineering teams (mechanical, electrical, civil/structural, I&C) to ensure design completeness and technical accuracy.
  • Oversee vendor development of fabrication details to meet design requirements, QA/QC standards, and procurement specifications.
  • Support installation planning, including work instructions, field packages, constructability reviews, and outage scheduling.
  • Provide field engineering support during installation to resolve technical issues and maintain design intent.
  • Manage configuration control, ensuring changes are implemented in accordance with plant modification processes and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead or support testing and commissioning activities, including development of test plans, acceptance criteria, and post‑modification testing execution.
  • Interface with Operations, Maintenance, Licensing, and Work Management to align stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Assist the Project Manager with accurate engineering schedules and risk management, escalating issues and recommending corrective actions.
  • Prepare and deliver technical presentations, review packages, and justification documents to internal stakeholders, safety committees, and regulatory bodies.
  • Support turnover of completed modifications, including documentation, configuration updates, and training materials.
  • Provide onsite engineering support during refueling or forced outages as needed.
Required Qualifications
  • BS or BE Degree in Mechanical, Civil, Chemical, Nuclear Engineering, or related technical field.
  • Minimum 5 years of related engineering experience in a nuclear power plant or a related support vendor.
  • Completion of engineering fundamentals and systems training for a U.S. commercial nuclear power plant.
  • Qualification as the responsible engineer under the Nuclear Energy Institute Standard Design Process, IP‑ENG‑00.
  • Qualification in preparing/reviewing design analysis calculations for nuclear configuration and design basis control.
  • Experience preparing/reviewing test plans for installation, testing, and commissioning of equipment configuration changes.
  • Strong multitasking skills and ability to resolve conflicting priorities.
  • Availability for shift work during project installation work windows.
  • Compliance with federal requirements for unescorted access to the nuclear facility, including random alcohol and drug testing.

Desired (Preferred) Qualifications
  • Previous power uprate experience at a U.S. commercial nuclear facility.
  • Experience with engineering software tools such as Gothic, Retran, Proto‑flo, Fathom, Proto‑HX, Auto Pipe, or ME101.
  • Professional Engineer’s License in NJ or another state.
  • Master’s Degree in Science or Engineering in a related discipline.
  • Experience with SAP computerised maintenance management system.
