Application Engineer – Load Banks Systems

Trystar is at the forefront of advancing power solutions, charged and driven by a committed, dynamic team, tackling complex challenges, and creating innovative solutions. We’re looking for motivated, driven, and talented individuals eager to be part of the future of power. Safety and integrity aren’t just buzzwords, they are the north star guiding us as we aspire to wow our customers every day.

We’ve created power solutions that are not only durable and unique but are also the result of exciting teamwork from every corner of our organization.

Individually and collectively, every team member at Trystar plays for each other and strives to deliver unmatched value and 100% accuracy to our customers every single day. Our cutting-edge headquarters is in Faribault, MN, a facility that is partially solar and wind powered by our own microgrid! Together, we are Trystar, where we power the future and nurture innovation for a brighter tomorrow.

At Trystar, our people are our greatest competitive advantage. We are seeking a highly motivated Application Engineer for Load Banks to join our Applications Engineering team, based out of our Burnsville, MN headquarters with flexibility for remote work.

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Application Engineering, the Application Engineer (Load Banks Systems) will serve as the principal technical SME for Trystar's resistive, reactive, and resistive-reactive load bank portfolio (5 kW to 10+ MW; 208V–34.5 kV). Own the engineered solution architecture across portable, stationary, trailer-mounted, rooftop, and containerized.

The engineer supports pre‑sales application engineering (RFQs, specs, sizing, BOMs, conceptual drawings), enables scope clarity and risk mitigation, and drives clean handoffs to Engineering/Manufacturing while improving responsiveness, quality, and cycle time. Key technical domains include Power Dyne resistor technology, transformer sizing and specification (MV load bank systems), SCCR coordination, UL 508A compliance, and system‑level integration with generators, switch gear, and utility interconnects.

Key Responsibilities Product Expertise & Technical Authority (Load Bank Systems)
  • Serve as the system and product SME for Trystar's full load bank portfolio: LV resistive/reactive, MV transformer‑coupled load banks, portable, stationary, trailer‑mounted, and rooftop configurations.
  • Provide configuration guidance, value engineering, and product selection aligned to application requirements — including Power Dyne resistor technology, SCCR coordination, transformer sizing, and UL 508A compliance.
  • Recommend the right solution path by translating customer specifications into optimal load bank configurations, identifying standard vs. non‑standard vs. ETO scope.
  • Maintain deep technical knowledge of generator testing protocols, commissioning loads, data center acceptance testing, and utility load‑rejection testing applications.
Customer Application Support (Pre‑ & Post‑Sales)
  • Provide application and technical support to customers and internal partners (Sales/FSE/CX) for load bank applications across data centers, utilities, rental fleets, military/government, healthcare, and industrial sectors.
  • Work with customers and design engineers to ensure that load bank equipment meets system requirements — acting as a trusted advisor on sizing, configuration, and integration.
  • Support post‑sales troubleshooting of field issues related to load bank performance, control systems, and site integration as needed.
  • Conduct technical discovery calls with customers to clarify load bank application requirements, site constraints, and performance expectations.
  • Review load bank RFQs and customer specifications; support one‑line diagrams, layout reviews, and scope‑of‑work definition.
  • Support proposals: load bank equipment sizing, BOMs, conceptual drawings, MV transformer specifications, and budgetary quote packages.
  • Lead/support customer design reviews and value engineering for load bank systems — document assumptions, exclusions, and risk mitigations.
  • Ensure compliance with UL/NEC/IEEE/NFPA standards as required for each load bank request.
  • Evaluate…
