About the Company

United Utility Services is a dynamic player in the electric utility industry, delivering power delivery solutions that are safe, engineered smart, and customer‑centric. We serve as the parent company to industry‑leading contractors specializing in transmission, substation, distribution, and grid hardening projects.

Position Overview

We are seeking a Distribution Engineer with an active Professional Engineer (PE) license to lead technical quality control (QC) oversight on electric utility distribution infrastructure projects. The role supports project teams with QA/QC through design review and construction activities, ensuring deliverables meet codes, standards, and client requirements. Remote work is possible.

Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as Quality Control lead/reviewer for electric utility distribution engineering deliverables, including designs, plans, calculations, specifications, and bill of materials.
  • Work within established QA/QC workflows and review processes to verify completeness, constructability, and compliance with client standards and applicable codes.
  • Perform independent technical reviews of distribution designs such as overhead and underground systems, pole replacements, reconductoring, voltage conversion, capacitor banks, regulator placements, pad‑mount equipment, switch gear, and network/spot systems.
  • Review staking sheets, plan‑and‑profile drawings, structure loading/strength calculations, guying, grounding, clearances, and equipment ratings; confirm coordination with protection and controls requirements.
  • Provide mentorship and technical guidance to engineers, designers, and drafters; support continuous improvement of design quality and standardization.
  • Coordinate with project managers to align QC milestones with schedules; document QC comments, dispositions, and corrective actions.
  • Support client/utility standards maintenance efforts and participate in lessons‑learned reviews.
  • Interface with utility clients, municipalities, and stakeholders to clarify requirements, resolve design issues, and support permitting.
  • Provide construction support including RFIs, field issue resolutions, and as‑built reviews; support outage planning and work package readiness as required.
  • Maintain familiarity with relevant tools and systems such as GIS, work management systems, CAD platforms, and design/analysis software.
  • Support proposal development and scope definition for distribution engineering and QC services.
  • Uphold safety, ethics, and compliance expectations; demonstrate professional responsibility consistent with PE licensure.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering (or closely related discipline) from an accredited institution.
  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license in at least one U.S. state; ability to obtain additional licensure as required.
  • Typically 6+ years of experience in electric utility distribution engineering (overhead and/or underground) within a consulting firm, utility, or contractor environment.
  • Demonstrated experience performing technical reviews and/or leading QC/QA for engineering deliverables.
  • Knowledge of electric utility distribution standards, construction practices, and applicable codes/regulations (e.g., NESC, NEC, OSHA).
  • Ability to review and interpret utility drawings, one‑lines, specifications, and material standards; strong attention to detail.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for effective review comments and issue resolution.
  • Proficiency with common engineering and office tools (e.g., Microsoft Office); ability to learn client‑specific design/work‑management systems.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to perform limited local travel/field visits as required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting high‑volume utility distribution programs involving overhead and underground distribution design packages.
  • Experience serving as Engineer of Record or stamping distribution design packages where permitted.
  • Familiarity with pole loading/analysis tools and methods; experience reviewing structure class, loading cases, and clearance compliance.
  • Experience with client distribution design platforms and data environments (e.g.,…
