We are working with a client near McHenry, IL who is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Product Development Electronics Engineer. This position is responsible for designing and industrializing embedded electronic systems - from early concept through to series production. Collaborate in a cross-functional, agile environment to deliver innovative, safe, and high-quality medical products that improve lives worldwide. This is a hybrid position with 1-2 days a week or remote work.

This is a full time direct hire position. No sponsorship is available. No B2C/C2C. Must live in the north Chicago area. No relocation available. Prior regulatory experience is needed.

Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Lead design and development of embedded electronic systems.
  • Define hardware architectures and create schematics and PCB layouts using Altium Designer.
  • Drive development from concept through prototyping, verification, and production transfer.
  • Own hardware requirements aligned with system architecture.
  • Perform circuit simulation, analysis, and root-cause investigations.
  • Ensure compliance with medical device standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Support verification & validation activities and integrate learnings into design iterations.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, including specifications, FMEA, and design records.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including software, mechanics, V&V, etc.
  • Support design transfer, BOM optimization, and DFM/DFA activities.
  • Serve as a technical mentor and subject matter expert.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Embedded Systems, or a related field is required.
  • Understanding of DFM, cost optimization, and production industrialization.
  • Knowledge of EMC/EMI and radio standards (IEC/EN60601, FCC, RED, etc.).
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Proactive mindset and ownership-driven attitude.
  • Familiarity with embedded firmware (C/C++) is a plus.
Experience:
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in embedded electronics and hardware development
  • Must have Medical Device or Aerospace experience
  • Must have PCB Design, Schematics, decided on hardware, and developed the boards all the way to production
  • Must have Altium experience
  • Must have EMC/EMI experience
  • Must have FMEA documentation experience
  • Strong expertise in analog, digital, and mixed-signal circuit design
  • Experience with microcontroller-based system design
