The position involves collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, use of specialized engineering software, and active participation in project discussions and customer interviews, while also mentoring and training less experienced team members.
Responsibilities
+ Perform detailed electrical calculations to establish construction standards, design criteria, and technical specifications.
+ Prepare, review, and study technical drawings, electrical schematics, and specifications to ensure that installations and designs comply with applicable standards, codes, and customer requirements.
+ Lead electrical design activities from conceptual phase through design completion, including equipment layouts, one-line diagrams, cable routing, communications systems design, grounding design, equipment selection, and equipment specifications.
+ Perform or be familiar with cable ampacity analysis and trench design using software packages such as CYMCAP, ETAP, or Amp Calc.
+ Model or be familiar with grounding system design using software packages such as WinIGS.
+ Conduct field surveys and review diagrams and other technical data to identify, analyze, and correct power system problems.
+ Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to discuss existing or potential construction and engineering projects.
+ Provide guidance to project teams to ensure that construction activities comply with design specifications, electrical codes, and customer requirements.
+ Inspect completed electrical installations to verify conformance to design intent, equipment specifications, and quality standards.
+ Compile technical data and prepare clear, comprehensive reports regarding existing and potential engineering studies and projects.
+ Operate computer-assisted engineering and design software and related equipment to perform a wide range of electrical engineering tasks.
+ Provide electrical engineering support for complex projects with minimal oversight from team leadership.
+ Participate in customer and project interviews to support proposals, design decisions, and project planning.
+ Proactively guide Level 1 and Level 2 Engineers and Designers as they execute project-specific tasks or when other mentoring opportunities are identified.
+ Deliver training and share expertise with other technical personnel in key areas such as electrical design, PV systems, and engineering software tools.
+ Support requests for information (RFIs) and project documentation related to electrical engineering and PV design.
Essential Skills
+ 5+ years of electrical engineering experience, including responsibility for design and analysis.
+ Experience in electrical engineering and electrical design for construction and power systems.
+ Proficiency in preparing and interpreting technical drawings, one-line diagrams, cable routing plans, and equipment layouts.
+
Experience with PV design and photovoltaic systems, including PV system configuration and performance considerations.
+ Ability to perform detailed electrical calculations and develop construction standards and specifications.
+ Familiarity with grounding system modeling and design using WinIGS or similar software.
+ Proficiency with computer-assisted engineering and design tools, including AutoCAD and Revit.
+ Ability to ensure compliance with electrical codes, standards, and customer requirements throughout the design and construction process.
+ Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for identifying and correcting power system issues.
+ Effective communication skills for collaborating with internal teams and external customers and for preparing technical reports.
+ Ability to work with minimal oversight on complex engineering projects and to take ownership of project deliverables.
Additional
Skills & Qualifications
+ Associate or bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, architectural engineering, or a closely related field.
+ Experience in renewable energy projects, particularly solar and photovoltaic systems.
+ Familiarity with PV design software such as PVSyst and PVcase.
+ Understanding of RFI processes and documentation in engineering and construction projects.
+ Professional Engineer (PE) credential or progress toward licensure is advantageous.
