We are seeking an R&D S&E, Mechanical Engineer to join our equipment lifecycle management team. On any given day, you may be called on to:
Work closely with our production, design, and analysis customers to develop specifications for new or replacement laboratory or manufacturing equipment and lead a team through procurement, installation, and commissioning of that equipment
Work with a variety of partners including operators, maintenance staff, leadership, and engineers to understand and help lead equipment and facilities projects in a range of locations
Evaluate processes, collect and define requirements, design and craft solutions, understand infrastructure needs, develop relationships with critical vendors, field new systems on the production floor, and upgrade/fix deployed systems
Oversee manufacturing efforts at a range of vendor sites, ensuring builds are to specifications, on time and within budget. Traveling to various sites to support these builds
Partner, mentor, and seek outside expertise in an ongoing fashion
Effectively collaborate with internal customers, suppliers, and several levels of management
Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite.
Salary Range:
$117,500 - $235,700
* Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.
Qualifications We Require:
A Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline and five (5) years of directly relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of directly relevant education and engineering or scientific experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform independent research and development
Ability to acquire and maintain a DOE Q clearance
Qualifications We Desire:
The ideal R&D S&E Electrical Engineer candidate for Sandia National Laboratories will in addition possess the following:
Graduate degree in Mechanical Engineering or a highly related field where an independent research project was a graduation requirement (e.g., independent project, thesis, or dissertation)
Experience with mechanical engineering and product realization in the NNSA complex
Strong verbal and written communication skills, ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams
Also, for this posting we are seeking individuals with the following experience:
Experience in equipment, processes, and/or infrastructure needs of critically important manufacturing and/or R&D
Ability to work closely and successfully with customers with a wide range of needs and experience
Ability to demonstrate a strong commitment to customer service and excels at navigating complex organizational processes and procedures
Project management experience along with leadership experience (in any venue).
Active DOE Q clearance
Strong analytical, social, and critical thinking skills
About Our Team:
The Asset and Operations Management Department (7573) supports three major areas:
Equipment Lifecycle Management for Neutron Generators, Power Sources, and Explosives Technologies. This team tracks, procures, characterizes, and retires equipment, and oversees mission-specific facility projects. This posting supports this portion of the 7573 mission.
