We are seeking a Technical Undergraduate Year-Round Intern to join our dynamic team!
On any given day, you may be called on to:
+ Work within a team of engineers to perform safeguards and security MC&A work in support of U.S. national security.
+ Learn about specialized gamma spectroscopy equipment for measurement of nuclear material.
+ Take the lead on projects of lasting impact to our national laboratory's security program while growing your technical skills.
+ Be part of a high performing team working to deter and detect theft and diversion of accountable nuclear material.
Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite.
Salary Range:
At Sandia, we value the important work done by our interns and its contribution to National Security. Because of this, our interns earn competitive pay rates. Our pay structure is based on earned credit hours, classification, and degree level. Your pay rate will be determined during the hire process and included in your offer package. Qualifications We Require:
You bring the confidence and skills to be eligible for the job by meeting these minimum requirements:
+ Currently attending and enrolled full time in a related accredited undergraduate program
+ Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0
+ Ability to work up to 25 hours per week during the academic year, and up to 40 hours per week during the summer
+ Ability to secure and maintain a U.S. security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship
Note:
If you have not earned a HS diploma or equivalent, please apply to a high school intern position.
Qualifications We Desire:
+ Pursuing a degree in the fields of nuclear engineering, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, chemistry, or related field
+ Ability to work effectively in a laboratory environment
+ Experience working with nuclear material
+ Training or experience in Material Control and Accountability (MC&A)
+ Desire to build a career in safeguards and security

About Our Team:
To support the mission, multiple Sandia organizations acquire, use, and possess accountable nuclear materials. The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) requires all sites that possess accountable nuclear materials to establish and maintain nuclear material management (NMM) and Material Control & Accountability (MC&A) programs. Nuclear Material Management programs are designed to ensure that nuclear materials are managed as valuable assets, used appropriately, and disposed of properly when no longer needed.
MC&A programs are designed to deter and detect theft and diversion of nuclear material by both outside and inside adversaries. The Nuclear Material Management/MC&A Department develops and implements effective NMM and MC&A programs that are compliant with DOE/NNSA requirements, while supporting line organizations mission objectives.
