Summary

The role is for a Transmission Line Project Engineer – Journey Level who has mastered Associate Engineer-level skills and responsibilities and is responsible for leading the engineering and design of complex transmission line projects.

The Journey-Level Engineer exercises independent judgment in applying engineering principles and works with minimal supervision.

Collaboration with engineers, project managers, construction personnel, and other business partners to assess project needs is essential.

Additional responsibilities include developing technical studies and reports, providing guidance to contractors and engineering consultants, and traveling up to 20% for project-related activities.

This hybrid position requires working from a remote office and an assigned work location within the PG&E Service Territory, based on business needs.

  • Job ResponsibilitiesResolve problems of moderate scope using standard engineering solutions.
  • Independently plan work under general direction; progress is reviewed periodically for technical accuracy.
  • Perform Associate Engineer-level functions as needed.
  • Provide technical expertise, conduct engineering analyses and studies, and develop conceptual designs.
  • Present findings to internal teams, contractors, and vendors.
  • Conduct walkdowns and design review meetings.
  • Prepare technical documents, including design criteria, scope documents, specifications, and reports.
  • Develop, evaluate, and recommend alternative project proposals.
  • Solicit, prepare, and evaluate contracts and proposals from engineering consultants.
  • Review consultant contracts for technical compliance.
  • Interpret and apply applicable codes and regulations.
  • Participate in developing restoration plans and assist with root cause analysis.
  • Approve reports, new drawings, and revisions to existing drawings.
  • Respond promptly to facility failures during emergency situations.
  • Represent the utility company before government agencies for assigned projects.
  • RequirementsBachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited U.S. curriculum or an equivalent degree from outside the United States.
  • Minimum of 3 years of cumulative engineering and design experience.
  • Desired Skill SetsExperience in electrical transmission line engineering (115 kV–500 kV).
  • Strong familiarity with GO 95, NESC, and PG&E transmission line standards and construction practices.
  • Strong proficiency with PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, and related transmission line design software.

Employment Type: Contract (12+ months) with potential for contract-to-hire
