What Your Job Will Be Like:
Our team is ready to welcome a highly motivated, productive, and innovative individual to join the Analytical Structural Dynamics Department as a structural dynamics analyst. Our span of work encompasses the full spectrum of research, development, and application in structural dynamics analysis. The position involves an inspiring mix of engineering analysis, model development, model validation, and product performance evaluation for a wide range of Sandia products.
There are significant opportunities to team with in-house (high-fidelity, multi-physics) code development teams, as well as daily opportunities to work on very challenging problems using world-class computational resources!
On any given day, you may be called on to:
Support the completion of shock and vibration research and analyses for weapons systems, missile payloads, and other aerospace structures
Team with project and test engineers at Sandia and with Sandia's external customers
Work with and/or lead a diverse team of staff to support our research and programmatic needs
Share results through internal reports, journal publications, conference presentations, and internal design, testing, and qualification reviews

Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite. Relocation provided for those that qualify.
Salary Range:
$117,500 - $235,700
* Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.
Qualifications We Require:
A Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline and five (5) years of directly relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of directly relevant education and engineering or scientific experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform independent research and development
Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q security clearance
Qualifications We Desire:
The ideal R&D S&E Mechanical Engineer candidate for Sandia National Laboratories will in addition possess the following:
Graduate degree in Mechanical Engineering or a highly related field where an independent research project was a graduation requirement (e.g., independent project, thesis, or dissertation)
Experience with mechanical engineering and product realization in the NNSA complex
Ability to work independently and collaborate well in a multidisciplinary team of designers and test engineers
Outstanding verbal and written skills, including the ability to develop and present briefings that are clear and compelling
Also, for this posting, we are seeking individuals with the following:
Understanding of structural dynamics and modal analysis theory, including relevant coursework in structural dynamics, mechanics, FEA, and materials engineering
Experience with meshing and model development tools
Experience with finite element analysis (FEA) software
Programming experience in MATLAB, Python, or other languages
Experience working with experimental data and understanding typical structural dynamics testing approaches
Project leadership experience and the ability to translate customer needs into executable analysis tasks
Experience calibrating models to experimental data and debugging model issues
Strong written and verbal communication skills as demonstrated by articles in scientific journals, technical reports, or conference presentations
Research experience
CAD experience
Experience running simulations on high-performance computing (HPC) systems
Experience integrating AI tools into engineering workflows
Active DOE Q or DoW TS security clearance
