What Your Job Will Be Like:

We are seeking a  Year Round - Technical Grad Intern to join our dynamic team.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

Design, fabricate, and characterize chip-scale piezoelectric phononic devices and magnetic devices for radio frequency signal processing applications.

Outstanding candidates will have previous cleanroom fabrication experience and familiarity with electrical testing equipment. They will be expected to:

+ Apply existing knowledge and gain new knowledge towards fundamental studies of piezoelectric-and magnetic-based microsystems.

+ Conduct research and publish.

+ Work in a collaborative environment and contribute your knowledge to the team.

+ Interact with other scientists and engineers to solve technical problems.

Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite.

Salary Range:

Our pay structure is based on earned credit hours, classification, and degree level. Your pay rate will be determined during the hire process and included in your offer package. Qualifications We Require:

You bring the confidence and skills to be eligible for the job by meeting these minimum requirements:

+ Earned bachelor's degree

+ Currently attending and enrolled full time in a related accredited graduate program

+ Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0

+ Ability to work up to 30 hours per week during the academic year, and up to 40 hours per week during the summer

+  U.S. citizens, legal permanent residents, asylees or refugees in the U.S.

Qualifications We Desire:

+ Graduate student currently studying Electrical Engineering, Physics, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering or a related science or engineering field

+

Experience with some of the following:

+ Cleanroom fabrication

+ Designing, building, and maintaining setups for electrical transport measurements  

+ Characterization of fundamental electrical properties, e.g., probe station, four-point probe, etc.

+ Use of bench-top radio frequency measurement equipment, e.g., network analyzer, spectrum analyzer

+ Ability to work in a team environment and independently to solve challenging problems

+ Strong verbal and written communication skills

About Our Team:

The III-V Optoelectronics Department develops compound semiconductor and RF devices, photonics, and microsystems for national security applications including high-performance computing, communications, renewable energy, sensing and imaging. As part of Sandia's Microsystems Science, Technology and Components Center, we research, design, fabricate, prototype, test and deliver novel RF and photonics devices, including lasers, photonic integrated circuits, and sensors. We focus on R&D of high performance technology platforms and customized microsystems.

We leverage state-of-the-art materials and fabrication capabilities within the Microsystems Engineering Sciences and Applications (MESA) cleanroom complex to serve a broad mix of internal and external customers. Core capabilities include:
Optical, optoelectronic and electronic modeling and simulation Epitaxial design, materials growth (MOCVD/MBE) and materials characterization Design, microfabrication and testing of III-V photonic devices, RF devices and photonic integrated circuits Heterogeneous microsystem integration and prototyping High-speed and harsh-environment optoelectronics, and device reliability
