THE POSITION

Join the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) as a Civil Engineer Manager and take on a leadership role that strengthens environmental protection across the Southcentral Region. In this position, you will guide dedicated staff who oversee important work involving waterways, wetlands, and dam safety.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position leads the Dam Safety, Waterways, and Wetlands Section and manages the implementation of laws, regulations, and guidance that support safe and responsible environmental practices. The role focuses on supervising staff, coordinating permit reviews, and ensuring the proper handling of program responsibilities across the Southcentral Region. As a Civil Engineer Manager, you will perform the following duties:

  • Permit Oversight: Manage application reviews, track workload, and ensure compliance with established procedures
  • Staff Guidance: Supervise section staff, assign tasks, and provide direction on program requirements
  • Interagency Coordination: Work with regional and central office personnel to maintain consistent program practices
  • Technical Review: Evaluate proposed actions for alignment with regulations, policies, and guidance
  • Inspection Support: Conduct or oversee investigations related to dams, wetlands, and encroachment activities
  • Public Assistance: Provide information to contractors, consultants, officials, and the public on environmental requirements

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • This position requires travel as needed.
  • You will have the option to work from one of the following headquarters offices:

    • Southwest Regional Office - - 400 Waterfront Drive, Pittsburgh, PA 15222

  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to 3 days per week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters location. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Four years of professional civil engineering experience which includes three years in the appropriate specialty and one year of experience in directing the work of civil engineers.

Special Requirement:

  • This position requires possession of a valid Professional Engineer license issued by the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists.
