SUMMARY

Working as part of the Engineering Division, you will help lead a talented team in the development of internally and externally designed projects and operation of related municipal programs. You’ll be responsible for developing and executing a diverse range of projects (water, sewer, streets, traffic, etc.), asset‑management plans, studies, right‑of‑way permitting, environmental permitting and programs, and the related resident and business communication.

You will also work with cross‑departmental staff to help review site plans and participate in complex development projects. We value excellent communication skills and the ability to engage with the public, providing clear explanations of projects and solving problems that arise during construction.

LOCATION

The Department of Public Works is located at 1800 E State Road in East Lansing. The DPW facility is located north of downtown, nestled between wooded lots and farm fields. The office is located near US‑127 and I‑69, and there is ample surface parking. The facility is also located near Granger Meadows Park and other walking trails, which staff often frequent on their breaks.

Due to the nature of this work, remote work options are available but limited and based on the demands of the Department.

ON‑GOING AND UP‑COMING PROJECTS
  • Wet‑Weather Resiliency Master Planning:
    City‑wide 2D Hydraulic and Hydrologic modeling and climate predictions to help design infrastructure to meet challenges of a changing climate.
  • State Revolving Fund Sewer Projects including both the sewer collection system and the Water Resource Recovery Facility.
  • Traffic Signal Asset Management Plan.
  • Major and Local Road Reconstruction and Utility Projects.
QUALIFICATIONS

A bachelor’s degree with major coursework in civil engineering or a related engineering discipline is required, and possession of, or ability to obtain, registration as a Professional Engineer is desired. Work experience should include five…
