The Geotechnical Project Manager will lead and manage geotechnical projects from proposal through design, reporting, and construction support. This full-time hybrid role is based in Tempe, AZ, with flexibility for some work from home, and requires regular in-office collaboration and occasional site visits. Day-to-day responsibilities include planning and overseeing subsurface investigations, coordinating drilling and field testing, reviewing and interpreting soil and rock data, and preparing geotechnical reports, foundation recommendations, and slope stability analyses.
The role involves managing project budgets and schedules, supervising and mentoring junior staff, and coordinating with clients, contractors, and internal teams across environmental, civil, and materials testing disciplines. The Geotechnical Project Manager will also support quality control, risk assessment, and constructability reviews, while contributing to proposals, scope development, and client relationship management.
- Strong project coordination abilities, including Project Management experience and the capacity to oversee Expediting activities and serve as an effective Expeditor as needed.
- Experience with Inspection and quality assurance processes related to geotechnical investigations, construction materials, and foundation systems.
- Knowledge of Logistics Management to plan and schedule drilling operations, field crews, laboratory testing, and subcontractor activities efficiently.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering, or ability to obtain licensure within a reasonable timeframe.
- Demonstrated experience managing geotechnical projects, including subsurface investigations, foundation design recommendations, and slope stability or earth retention evaluations.
- Proficiency with geotechnical software (e.g., slope stability, settlement, bearing capacity) and familiarity with relevant building codes and industry standards.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for preparing clear technical reports and presenting findings to clients and project teams.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or a related field; advanced degree in geotechnical or geologic engineering is a plus
