Role Summary
We are supporting a specialist engineering consultancy in the search for an experienced, fully remote, Controls Design Engineer to join their growing mission critical team. This role offers the opportunity to work on the design and delivery of highly resilient building systems for data centres and other critical infrastructure projects where reliability, uptime, and performance are paramount.
Working within a multidisciplinary consultancy environment, you will be responsible for developing controls strategies and technical designs that support complex mechanical and electrical systems throughout the project lifecycle.

Role Responsibilities- Design and develop controls systems for mission critical and data centre projects.
- Produce control philosophies, controls schematics, sequence of operations, points schedules, and technical specifications.
- Develop integrated controls solutions for HVAC, mechanical, and electrical building systems.
- Create and maintain high-quality technical drawings using AutoCAD.
- Coordinate with mechanical, electrical, and specialist engineering teams throughout the design process.
- Attend client meetings, technical workshops, and design reviews.
- Support design assurance activities and ensure compliance with relevant industry standards and client requirements.
- Review contractor submissions and provide technical guidance during project delivery.
- Assist with commissioning, integrated systems testing, and project handover where required.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of controls design standards and best practices within the business.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering
. - Proven experience working within an engineering consultancy environment.
- Strong controls design experience within mission critical facilities, ideally including data centres.
- Experience producing controls documentation including control philosophies, schematics, sequences of operation, and technical specifications.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD
. - Strong understanding of Building Management Systems (BMS), Building Automation Systems (BAS), and HVAC controls.
- Experience working within multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Knowledge of mission critical infrastructure and high-availability environments.
- Excellent communication, coordination, and stakeholder management skills.
Desirable Experience
- Data centre commissioning or integrated systems testing experience.
- Knowledge of common BMS platforms and automation technologies.
- Experience undertaking site surveys and technical assessments.
- Understanding of energy-efficient building operation and optimisation.
- Familiarity with British and international engineering standards relevant to mission critical facilities.
