Senior Grid Modeler
Location:
Allentown, PA (Remote with workshop visits to onsite) Duration: 06 Months plus
Rate: DOE US Citizens and Green cards are Preferred.
Job Summary:
The Senior Grid Modeler will lead the development, maintenance, and enhancement of electrical grid models crucial for utility planning and optimization. This role demands expertise in grid systems, advanced modeling techniques, and data analysis to ensure grid reliability and performance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Grid Modelling and Simulation
- Develop, calibrate, and validate detailed electrical grid models using advanced simulation software.
- Conduct load flow, stability, short-circuit, and dynamic studies to evaluate grid performance under diverse conditions.
- Assess the impact of renewable energy integration, distributed generation, and new technologies on grid stability.
- Data Analysis and Visualization
- Analyze grid data to identify trends, anomalies, and potential issues.
- Utilize data analytics tools to interpret complex datasets and derive actionable insights.
- Prepare comprehensive reports and visualizations to communicate findings effectively.
- Planning and Optimization
- Collaborate with grid planners to formulate long-term and short-term grid expansion plans.
- Optimize grid operations to enhance efficiency, minimize losses, and improve service reliability.
- Perform scenario analysis to support strategic decision-making for grid investments and upgrades.
- Regulatory Compliance and Reporting
- Ensure adherence of grid models and operations to industry standards and regulatory requirements.
- Prepare documentation and reports for regulatory submissions and compliance audits.
- Stay informed about regulatory changes impacting grid modeling and operations.
- Collaboration and Leadership
- Work closely with cross-functional teams (engineering, operations, IT) to integrate modeling efforts with company initiatives.
- Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior modellers and engineers.
- Lead or participate in project teams focused on grid modernization and innovation.
- Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities for process enhancements and implement best practices in grid modeling and analysis.
- Stay updated on emerging technologies and methodologies in grid modeling.
- Participate in industry conferences, workshops, and professional development activities.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or a related field;
Master's degree preferred. - 7-10 years of experience in electrical grid modeling, simulation, and analysis.
- Proficiency in advanced grid simulation software (e.g., PSS/E, PSCAD, DIgSILENT Power Factory, ETAP).
- Strong understanding of power systems engineering principles.
- Experience with data analytics tools and techniques.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Familiarity with regulatory requirements and industry standards.
Preferred
Skills:
- Experience with renewable energy integration and distributed energy resources.
- Knowledge of advanced optimization techniques.
- Familiarity with machine learning and AI applications in grid modeling.
