As a statewide coordinator and specialist for local units of government and for the Plat Review program, oversee and check complex survey work of more than 350 state-licensed professional land surveyors for compliance with state statutes and administrative rules. Analyze and integrate a broad range of diverse, and often conflicting, state statutes, rules, and local land division ordinances in order to inform, persuade and negotiate solutions with surveyors, developers, state agency program directors, county planning agents and elected officials on developments throughout the state.
Instruct, direct and guide the work of local units of government in their review of land divisions for compliance and consistency with state platting laws, administrative rules and local land division ordinances. Delegate projects, monitor work assignments and review the work of staff surveyors and engineering technicians. Perform and oversee the necessary office computations and analysis of precise survey data.

Salary Information
Level will be determined based on the selected candidate's qualifications.
Surveyor-Senior:
Starting salary for this position will be between $21.70-$38.58 per hour, plus excellent benefits. This position is classed as a Surveyor Senior and is assigned to pay schedule/range 14-14. This position is exempt from the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). A 12-month probation period may be required. Pay for current state employees will be set in accordance with the Wisconsin State Compensation Plan at the time of hire.
Surveyor-Advanced:
Starting salary for this position will be between $28.24 - $52.09 per hour, plus excellent benefits. This position is classed as a Surveyor Advanced and is assigned to pay schedule/range 14-13. This position is exempt from the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). An additional $1.00 per hour add-on will be provided to those that qualify based on valid licensure of a Land Surveyor with the Department of Safety & Professional Services.
A 12-month probation period may be required. Pay for current state employees will be set in accordance with the Wisconsin State Compensation Plan at the time of hire.
Surveyor-Advanced level applicants must currently hold and maintain a Professional Land Surveying license from the State of Wisconsin, Department of Safety and Professional Services. Additionally you are required to obtain a personal registration seal in compliance with the specifications outlined in Wis. Admin. Code § A-E 2.02.
Job Details
Due to the nature of the position, DOA will conduct background checks on applicants prior to selection. DOA does not sponsor work visas and is not an eligible OPT (Optional Practical Training) employer for F-1 international students. All persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States, and to complete the required employment eligibility form.
All employees are expected to live and work in Wisconsin. Certain positions within this Department may allow remote/work from home flexibility for a portion of their work schedule, depending on the needs of the position and the work unit. This topic and any remote work flexibility that may be available will be discussed in more detail in the interview process.
Qualifications

* Experience with the plat mapping process
* Experience reviewing subdivision plat maps, certified survey maps, assessor's plats, and understanding Chapter 236 of Wisconsin' s state statutes (Platting Lands and Recording and Vacating Plats)
* Technical writing skills and public presentation skills
In addition, well-qualified applicants at the Surveyor-Advanced level will have the following:
* Hold and maintain a Wisconsin Professional Land Surveyor license
