Engineer-In-Training I

CDOT's Pavement Management Unit is hiring an Engineer-In-Training I to support the statewide Pavement Management and Surface Treatment Program. In this role, you'll work alongside experienced engineers to analyze pavement condition and performance data, use specialized pavement management software, and help develop information that supports roadway surface treatment and investment decisions across Colorado.

Your duties and responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Utilize specialized pavement management software to support CDOT's statewide pavement management program.
• Analyze pavement condition and performance data to support engineering analyses and decision-making.
• Perform quality assurance reviews of pavement condition data and evaluate pavement performance trends.
• Assist with pavement performance modeling and budget analyses that support pavement preservation and investment decisions.
• Analyze pavement and construction data to support research, reporting, and engineering evaluations.
• Assist in developing improvements to pavement management models, engineering processes, and technical analyses.
• Generate pavement management reports and assist with model updates and quality control.
• Coordinate meetings, prepare agendas and meeting materials, and collaborate with internal teams and technical committees.
• Attend meetings, complete required training, and perform other duties as assigned.

Work Environment

• Your schedule will primarily be 8:00 am – 5:00 pm work hours, Monday-Friday, but we are flexible to meet your work/life balance needs while ensuring CDOT business needs are met.
• You will likely work a hybrid schedule with a combination of in-office and remote work.
• Approximately 5% spent in the field, 95% spent in the office
• Travel required during work hours throughout Metro Denver/Front Range
• Potential in-state and out-of-state overnight travel for Pavement conferences 1-3 times a year
• Required to operate CDOT vehicles

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in engineering or engineering technology. (Transcripts and / or NACES report will be needed to show the degree is conferred.)

Substitution:

Current enrollment as an Engineer-Intern by the Colorado State Board of Licensure for Architects, Professional Engineers and Professional Land Surveyors will substitute for the required degree.

College Transcripts:
If you are using education to qualify, a legible copy of your official or unofficial college transcript(s) or an official foreign credential evaluation report must be submitted with your application. Transcripts must show the name of the school, completed credit hours, and (if applicable) that a degree was conferred. Transcripts from colleges or universities outside of the United States must have been assessed for U.S. equivalency by a NACES educational credential evaluation service.

The credential evaluation report must be an official report. Failure to provide a transcript or official foreign credential evaluation report may result in your application being rejected and you will not be able to continue in the selection process for this position.

Conditions of Employment

• If you are selected, you must provide a copy of your transcript showing that an engineering degree has been conferred by the date of hire as a condition of employment.
• It is a CDOT condition of employment that individuals hired to the class of Engineer-In-Training I must obtain enrollment as an Engineer Intern by the Colorado State Board of Licensure for Architects, Professional Engineers and Professional Land Surveyors within three years of the initial appointment to the EIT I classification.
• It is a CDOT condition of employment that individuals hired to the class of Engineer-In-Training must obtain registration as a Professional Engineer by the Colorado State Board of Licensure for Architects, Professional Engineers and Professional Land Surveyors within eight years of the initial appointment to the EIT classification.

• A current valid driver's license is required for all Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) positions which require operating a state or personal motor vehicle to perform one or more essential functions of the position.
