Job Purpose The Project Design Engineer is responsible for designing, engineering, and costing critical power construction projects. Activities include:
Create designs for strategic, large, technically complex projects. Support the construction of designs. Serve as subject matter expert for the resolution of technical issues. Continuously improve tools, templates and software used to provide proper estimations, designs, and supporting documentation. The Project Design Engineer clarifies project scope with clients, oversees discussions with professional engineering and architectural resources, engages special technical resources as necessary, works with equipment vendors to ensure compliance to specifications, performs system reliability calculations, engineers control and monitoring systems, guides the sales and estimating team in the costing and pricing of offers, assists the sales team with the presentation of solutions to clients, and supports the Sales and Operations teams in managing internal and external client relationships.

During construction, the Project Design Engineer assists the Project Managers and installation teams to meet the customer schedule and budget while ensuring safety and quality standards are met.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Quote and execute successful field projects within critical facilities environments, including oversight and direction of design and estimation deliverables from team members. Work with the Manager, PMO to establish, track, and update team KPIs. Serve as the subject matter expert for critical facility infrastructure and coach team members, including estimators, project managers, and sales personnel, on technical matters.

Develop and refine tools and processes to improve team efficiency and accuracy. Work closely with internal and external customers to determine requirements and provide cost-effective, innovative recommendations. Generate, read, interpret, and explain RFQs, SOWs, and drawings (space and single-line) to support the timely creation of solutions, estimates, and related documentation while adhering to company guidelines, including legal review requirements and margin calculations.

Maintain a working knowledge of client-specific standards and industry standards, such as Telcordia, within the data center and critical facilities environment. Support the Sales team in identifying and qualifying new market opportunities. Communicate effectively with customers, technicians, and project coordinators.
