Our infrastructure consulting firm client is seeking Energy Engineer with energy modeling experience to support clients throughout the Northeast on projects related to optimization of facilities. This position will primarily focus on energy engineering efforts, including building energy audits, focused energy studies, energy modeling, and analysis, while also supporting commissioning and other consulting services as needed.
The Energy Engineer will have the opportunity to lead selected projects, work directly with clients and stakeholders, and contribute to solutions that improve building performance, reduce energy consumption, and enhance operational reliability. This role requires the ability to combine engineering theory with hands-on field experience. The ideal candidate will evaluate facility operations, analyze system performance, identify opportunities for improvement, and develop practical recommendations that align with client goals.
This position requires a combination of office collaboration in Boston, on-site project activities at client sites and remote work.
Responsibilities include:
- Lead and support assigned energy engineering projects in the Greater Boston area primarily.
- Perform building energy audits, focused energy studies, and facility assessments.
- Conduct field investigations, verify existing conditions, and collect operational data.
- Develop energy models and perform engineering calculations and analysis.
- Evaluate mechanical systems and building operations to identify energy and operational improvements.
- Support commissioning and re-commissioning activities, including system evaluations and functional testing.
- Prepare technical reports, recommendations, and client deliverables.
- Communicate findings to stakeholders ranging from facility personnel to senior leadership.
- Collaborate with other engineers and support proposal development as needed.
Background profile:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience.
- 5+ years of experience in energy modeling, analysis, and/or measurement and verification (M&V).
- Project management and/or consulting experience beneficial
- Strong understanding of thermodynamics, heat transfer, and mass/energy flow principles.
- Experience with thermal and energy modeling, energy studies, and financial performance metrics required.
- Understanding of building operations and mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
- Knowledge of energy and power systems.
- Experience with Excel and eQuest desired, others will be considered.
- Experience with commissioning, re-commissioning, or monitoring-based commissioning preferred.
- Strong technical writing, communication, and analytical skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
