Position: Assistant Maintenance Operations Engineer (Senior Civil Engineer Supervisor (Transportation))

As an Assistant Maintenance Operations Engineer with the Department of Transportation, you will provide guidance, technical leadership, and support for projects that impact communities every day. DESCRIPTION

OF WORK

This position assists with the oversight of maintenance programs including roadside development, line painting, posted roads, municipal agreements, and emergency response. You will apply engineering judgment and support coordination among counties, municipalities, and district leadership. As an Assistant Maintenance Operations Engineer, you will perform the following duties:

  • Engineering Guidance:
    Provide analysis and recommendations for maintenance improvements and evaluate complex project issues
  • Program Administration:
    Manage Turnback, Comprehensive Maintenance, and Municipal Snow Programs and coordinate details with municipalities
  • Operational Coordination:
    Work with maintenance, construction, and municipal teams to support accurate program implementation
  • Line Painting Oversight:
    Plan and supervise district line painting activities, maintain quality standards, and track program progress
  • Road Program Support:
    Review posted and bonded roads, address hauling concerns, and prepare excess maintenance agreements
  • Project Supervision:
    Guide roadside specialists, inspectors, and interns while monitoring performance and resolving issues
Work Schedule and Additional Information
  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • You will work closely with vendors and work hours may change based on vendor availability.
  • Work schedule may vary due to season and/or operational needs
  • Telework:
    You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to 3 days per week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Bridgeville. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time.

  • Salary:
    Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $77,164 (before taxes).

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
  • Six years of civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty; and an Engineer-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists; or
  • Five years of civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty; and an Engineer-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists; and an associate’s degree in civil engineering technology or a closely related engineering discipline; or
  • Two years of professional civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty, and a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.
Special Requirement
  • This position requires possession of a valid driver's license.

  • PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
